Babe Ruth Baseball Hosts Jimmy Fund Tournament
Babe Ruth Baseball Hosts Jimmy Fund Tournament
Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball will host the annual Jimmy Fund Tournament this month. The tourney was scheduled to get underway on Wednesday and will run through June 23.
Teams from across Western Connecticut will participate in this double-elimination tournament for U13 and U14 programs. The Jimmy Fund is the official charity of New England Babe Ruth Baseball and the Boston Red Sox. The Jimmy Fund was established in 1947 by the Boston Braves and there was a boy named Jimmy who received the first chemotherapy treatment. The Jimmy Fund Clinic at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a place where children and their families find hope and receive expert compassionate care. The Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber have led the fight against cancer with numerous innovative ideas and successes.
New England baseball has raised more than a $1 million for the Jimmy Fund by collecting money at various tournament games across New England. The Babe Ruth program asks fans at every tournament game to give generously to this cause.
A raffle to win New York Yankees field level tickets and various baseball equipment will be held. All proceeds will go directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The U13 teams will play most of their games at Newtown High School and the U14 teams will mostly play at Fairfield Hills. Go to http://www.newtownbaseball.com/ for detailed scheduling information.
