The Landscaping Unlimited Yellow jackets started off Saturday with great pitching by Walker Previdi, who recorded two strikeouts in the first inning. He was helped out on offense with a line drive single by Brian Pendergast. In the second inning RJ Eller fielded a grounder to center and connected with Sam Cannizzo at second base for the out. Both Eller and Cannizzo also connected at the plate with singles, as did Jake Hossler and Eric Gray. Gray took the mound in the third inning and put up two strikeouts of his own. Blake Palmer saved a run with a strong throw to third from far left field. Singles by Vinny Wilson and Devin Herbstman kept the Yellow Jacketsâ hitting streak alive. Great defensive plays by Hossler at third, Herbstman at second and a diving catch by Eller made quick work of the fourth. The good defense continued with pitching by Herbstman in the fifth and a great catch by Pendergast in the sixth and late inning hits by Previdi, Wilson, Palmer, and Cannizzo.
Frate Custom Cabinetry & Winnick Steel: On Saturday the Bombers played a great game again. The pitching was outstanding with James Celentano, Josh Parsons, and David Braun each pitching solid innings. Ryan Verdi and Nicholas Sabillon led the defense with some great catches. On offense Orion Bracksieck, Matt Williams, and Kyle Pettit had two hits apiece.
The Hollandia Smashers were led by the strong pitching performances of Torin Kearney, Teddy Petit, and Daniel Debartolomeo. The trio combined for five strikeouts while holding their opponent in check. Stephen Mayer and Joseph DiMaria provided strong defense on the infield and Evan Casagrande threw a runner out from leftfield. On offense Peter Reelick had a triple and a double and Karl Miller had four hits, including two doubles.
The Hollandia Smashers pounded the ball with Peter Reelick collecting a double and a triple and Karl Miller slugging two doubles and a triple. Torin Kearney picked up three base hits. Max Barbagallo provided sold defense on the infield and Daniel Debartolomeo initiated the front end of an inning ending double play. Walter Brady was stingy on the mound picking up two strikeouts and Khal Bashawaty was solid at catcher and at first base.
Royal Rascals: If the Rascals had one more rainout they were going to start gathering animals by twos. Consistent play has really paid off for them. The team recorded two inning-ending double plays. One Zack Majeski handled himself and another through the combination of Trevor Jacozzi and Athan Tavar. Nick Sortino, Jacozzi and Zack Kugler provided lockdown pitching, while Dillon Diaspro, Matt Pietrorazio, Ben Watson, and Daniel Lounsbury racked up the RBIs. The M&M Boys, Matt Sortino and Matt Pietrorazio, both contributed with big defensive plays in the field.
The Network Synergy Black Knights played an exciting game and were led by the strong pitching performance of Brendan Adams and the hitting of Jack Petersen who smacked a double and a triple. Noah Clark made a great catch at third and Cal Reilly snagged a long ball in the outfield. Brandon Akbas and Miller Tetreault had big hits, Teddy Teraszkiewicz and Gregory Gargano played solid in the infield and Jake Mailloux pitched a strong inning with two strikeouts.
Apex Glass âNavy Sealsâ: The Seals played two games this week: In Game1, Michael Jewell was the starting pitcher relieved by Edwin Tout and Cooper Agresta, with all three players pitching strong innings. The game MVP was Connor Smith, who was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and also caught a fly ball in right field to end a first inning rally. Other offensive stars were Zander Kasbarian (2 hits and an RBI), Andrew McMahon (2 hits including a double), Edwin Tout (3 hits), Matthew McMahon (2 hits and an RBI), and George Sandercox (2 hits with a double and run scored).
In game 2, Drew Poseno was the starting pitcher and had 2 hits including a lead-off double and run scored. George Sandercox and Zander Kasbarian pitched in relief and each recorded 2 strikeouts. Zander Kasbarian was the defensive MVP by making 4 plays to record outs at shortstop, third base, and first base. The team offensive MVPs were Owen Browne (3-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored), and Andrew McMahon (3 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored). Other contributors were Matthew McMahon (2 hits), Connor Smith (2 hits and a run scored), George Sandercox (2 hits with an RBI and run scored), Ryan McMahon (single and run scored), Tommy Gies (single and RBI), Michael Jewell (single and RBI), and Edwin Tout (RBI).
MVP for the week: Starting pitcher Zander Kasbarian struck out the side in the first inning, and had three hits with an RBI and run scored. Tommy Gies pitched a strong inning with a strikeout, and made the defensive play of the game with a great catch in right center field to go along with a single and run scored. Andrew McMahon pitched an inning and had 2 singles with 3 RBI. Connor Smith and Edwin Tout both had 3 hits, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Owen Browne, Michael Jewell, and Cooper Agresta each contributed 2 hits in the game. Matthew McMahon had an RBI, and Drew Poseno had a single with a run scored. Ryan McMahon contributed with solid defensive play.
Art and Frame of Danbury: The Art and Framers continued to impress with the bats as Hayden Miller, Michael Ihlefeld, and William Hornby had multiple hits in the game. Michael Early had his best game of the season, as he had several hard-hit line drives, one deep down the right field line. Sean OâSullivan returned to action after a four-week stint on the disabled list to go 3-for-3, including two doubles. The glove work was equally impressive as James Hillefeld had a nice play at second base and made the throw to first to record the out. Trevor Hislop showed off his field prowess as he fielded a popup on the bounce and completed a 360-degree spin move and fired the ball to first base for the out. Matthew DeMott also made several nice stops on defense and Travis McClay played outstanding first base, recording several putouts. Hayden Miller had the play of the game as he completed an unassisted double play.
9-Year-Olds
Haywood Insurance Marines 10, McGuireâs Ale House Brewers 8: The Marines led 7-1 after two innings, and came back to win 10-8 in walk-off fashion. Connor Haywood and Thomas Tavar pitched very well for the Marines. At the plate, the Marines were led by Joey Rios and Ethan Goodman, each with 2 RBI. The Brewers offense was led by Aidan Finnegan with two singles, Tristan Andrew with a single and a triple, and Shaine Luzietti with a single and a double.
Mobil 1 Drillers 4, McGuireâs Ale House Brewers 4: An exciting, fast-paced game saw the Drillers and Brewers go extra innings and finish in a 4-4 tie. CJ Giacin, Patrick Boyle, Jared Dunn, and Eamon Doherty were on the hill for the Drillers. For the Brewers, Brett Melchionno, Braedon Reed, Shaine Luzietti, and Tristan Andrew kept pace with the Drillers pitching. Shaine Luzietti paced the Brewers offense with 2 hits and an RBI, while Doherty and Dunn led the offense for the Drillers.
McGuireâs Ale House Brewers 17, Big Dawgs 6: Solid pitching and defense were the story for the Brewers win. James Malin and Kieran Coffey combined on the mound for the victory. Offensively, the Brewers had extra base hits from Tristan Andrew, Aidan Finnegan, Jake Pare, and Josh Taylor. The Big Dawgs were paced offensively by Matt Bradbury, Michael Haddick, Sean Roche, and Jack Street.
Newtown Renegades 11, Norwalk 1: In 19th Annual Al Leonard Jimmy Fund Tournament early-round action, the Newtown Renegades faced off against Norwalk. Newtownâs Renegades took command with a 5-run lead in the top of the first and never looked back. At the plate, the team had extra base hits from Joey Rios, Connor Haywood, Matt Bradbury, and Thomas Tavar. John Godino and Josh Taylor combined to hold Norwalk to 1 hit and no earned runs over five innings.
10-Year-Olds
Giants 9, Pirates 3: The Giants got stellar pitching from Mark Leonardi and Shea Talbot, who pitched two scoreless innings each. Andrew Via entered the game in the top of the fifth with bases loaded and struck out the one batter he faced stopping a Pirate rally. Adam Trompetta got the save with help from his catcher Andrew Gardener,who threw out two base runners in the sixth inning to end the game.
Rays 8, Pirates 4: Connor Hughes had 2 hits, Colby Fowler had 2 RBI, and Charlie Asetta scored 2 runs. Joseph Pagett, Miles Ricks, and Jack Ketchum had strong pitching performances to lead the Quality Dental Rays to victory in the regular season finale. Ayden Kasbarian had two doubles, Bryan Vander Have had two singles, and both had strong outings on the mound for the DVP Technologies Pirates, but the hit of the game was by Ben Pinto of the Pirates who smashed a triple over the left fielderâs head.
Braves 8, Cubs 3: In the first round of the playoffs; the Cubs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with the help of a 2-RBI double by Todd Petersen and a RBI single from Ryan Beardsley. Ryan allowed no runs for the first two innings pitched. Todd Petersen notched three strikeouts to close out the fifth. The Braves pitching of Gavin Connors, Trevor Tyrell, and Tyler Fuori combined to give up only one hit after the first inning. The offense for the Braves came alive in the third. After two quick outs, Trevor Tyrrell hit a long triple to score Sean Arnold. Liam Logingâs RBI single and James Tibollaâs two-RBI double put the Braves on top 4-3. In the forth Tyler Fuori had a two-RBI single and Liam Loging another RBI single. On the defensive side Martin Godbout made three nice plays at second for three of the first four outs. James Tibolla made a diving stop at second, while Sean Arnold grabbed a line drive at second and completed the double play by nabbing the runner at second.
Pirates 9, Rays 2: The Pirates avenged a loss earlier in the week by beating the Rays in the first round of the playoffs. Justin DeThomas, Ben Albee, Ryan Nolan, Jeff Gioiele each had two hits to lead the Pirates including a DeThomas triple and Albee double. Every Pirate reached base at least once, and all but one reached base twice. Pitchers Bryan Vander Have, Thomas Luciano, and Ayden Kasbarian combined to limit the Rays to two runs and four hits on the evening. For the Rays, Michael Cotton tripled and pitched two shutout innings and James Burbank blasted a rocket base hit to the outfield. Garrett Marino had a great play at third and Connor Hughes made a nice catch in left field.
Aâs 4, Giants 1: A tough defensive battle with great pitching saw the Aâs, Kyle Nicholson, Patrick Hurley and Luke Barrett combined to hold the hard-hitting Giants to just one run, while Hurley, Barrett and Jordan Fulton led the offense with two hits each.
Aâs 12, Phillies 4: For the Aâs, Kyle Nicholson, Patrick Hurley and Luke Barrett held the high-scoring and top-seeded Phillies to just 4 runs, while Devin Johnson smacked an inside-the-park home run and made two sparkling plays on defense. James Mok and Jake Kneski also played solid defense for the Aâs, who advanced to the championship game with the win.
Braves 9, Pirates 7: In the second round of the playoffs the Pirates jumped off to a 2-0 lead with an RBI from Justin DeThomas. The Braves came back in the third with a RBI double from Gavin Conners and an RBI single from James Tibolla to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. Justin DeThomas and Ryan Nolan each had RBI singles in the third to put the Pirates up 4-3. In the forth, Ben Pinto hit a long triple to the center field fence. Ayden Kasbarian and Bryan VanderHave each had an RBI to put the Pirates up 6-3. In the Pirates fourth, George Mohigel, Martin Godbout, and Andrew Tomasino each had an RBI and a run scored and James Tibolla pulled a double down the line for two more RBI. Bryan VanderHave had another RBI in the sixth for the Pirates, who came up a little short.
Bryan Vanderhave was dominating on the mound for the pirates, pitching to the minimum six batters with four strikeouts to start out the game. Ayden Kasbarian pitched a scoreless fifth with two strike outs. Tyler Fuori closed out the pitching for the Braves giving up one run in the sixth. The defenses for both side brought their A-game. Ayden Kasbarian was on the receiving end of two great plays at the plate. A 6-4-3 double play started by James Tibolla to Gavin Connors to end the third. Matt Blanco made a diving catch to stop a Pirates rally in the forth. The Braves will face the Aâs in the championship game.
11-Year-Olds
Carminuccioâs Pizza 13, Sugar Hill Auto Sharks 3: In first round playoff action, Carminuccioâs Pizza defeated the Sharks 13-3. The leading Shark hitters were John Finnegan and Robert Murray with two hits each. Justin Kahn added a single. Jamey Hobar and Finnegan pitched well while Harry Lucas, Ryan Mailloux and Brandon Giglio made some good plays in the field.
Carminuccioâs Pizza 7, Ingersoll Auto, 2: Ingersoll Autos pitching staff, which included Ben Terry, Eric Moore, Simon Preston, and Shane Demers, had a great outing and just fell short in the last inning. Offensively they were led by Bobby Ward and Cody Camputaro. Also playing strong in the field were Luke Sansonetti and Jack Forgione.
Mobil 1 Lube Express Blue Devils 13, Ferro Financial Green Machine 12: After going down 5 runs in the top of the first inning ,the Blue Devils battled back with 5 runs of their own to end the first inning. David Kohler hit a double as did Josh Dunn to help the momentum in the first. Derrick Lewis and David Kohler each pitched scoreless innings, while Luke Kirby allowed only three. On defense Jack Heinlein had a diving catch to prevent a run and David Kohler had several outstanding catches. Offensively for the Blue Devils, David Kohler had 3 hits including 2doubles, Jeremy Larkin had 2 and Aaron Kirby, Josh Dunn and Andrew Lally each had clutch hits helping to propel the Blue Devilâs to victory in extra innings. The Green Machine came back twice in the game to tie it up from 9-5 and 12-9 deficits. The Machine were led by lead-off man, Tyler Trede, going 5-for-5 and scoring 4 runs. Jack Miller added 2 triples and a double. James Heran was 2-for-4 and Jackson Dooley was on base three times with a single and 2 walks. Matt Jewell slapped a nice single with Nicolas Stowell working the count for 2 walks. Jack Swanson played strong defense at first and behind the plate. Tim Shaw held the Devils to 1 run over two innings and also tied the game at 12 on a passed ball.
Mobil 1 Lube Express Blue Devils 12, Sal e Pepe Inferno 7: The Inferno took an early 5-1 lead in the first inning when Jack Hannan came up with a big line drive and scored three runners. After that the Blue Devils took control. Max Roberts had a critical hit to keep the drive going scoring 1 to tighten the lead 5-3 after the second and in the third Luke Kirby hit his first home run of the season in grand style by smacking the ball off the opposite field fence. That led to a huge third inning for the Blue Devils, with 8 runs scoring. For the Blue Devils Luke Kirby had 3 hits, including a double and a home run, Jack Heinlein, Aaron Kirby and Josh Dunn had 2 hits each, Jake Raiani, Jeremy Larkin, Max Roberts and Andrew Lally all had key hits in the 14-hit offensive outing for the Blue Devils. Derrick Lewis pitched two scoreless innings and Aaron Kirby had a scoreless outing as well.
