Sandy Hook & Monroe Artists Teaming Up

MONROE — Sandy Hook artist Julia Provey has been collaborating for about a year with Monroe artist Linda Dohonas to create concrete garden sculptures.

Combining talents and under the name The Concrete Blondes, the two women are presenting a special show at Barn Hill Studio, at the corner of Barn Hill Road and Route 111, this weekend and next. Called “Primal Spring,” the show will be open Saturday, June 16, with a reception from 4 to 7 pm. The event will then continue Sunday, June 17, and Saturday and Sunday, June 23–24, from noon to 4 pm each day.

After meeting last year, the artists found they have many similarities in artistic style and background. Both are third-generation artists, and both shared an unfulfilled dream of creating garden sculpture.

Ms Dohanas is a ceramicist who creates sculptures at her Barn Hill Studio, but yearned to work on a larger scale than her kiln can accommodate.

Julia Provey, having created may outdoor sculptures using beach sand, snow, and natural clay, wanted to find a way to make lasting, durable sculpture. Concrete was the solution.

Another aspect of the artists’ mission is to express their concrete beliefs spiritually, politically, and environmentally.

For additional information contact Ms Provey at 270-6301.
