June Is Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month

The Animal Center has joined the ASPCA in celebrating of June as “Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month” with the hopes of bringing attention to the many wonderful cats and kittens awaiting adoption nationwide.

Spring and summer are the times of year when animal shelters and rescue groups are overflowing with cats of all ages, sizes and colors. By adopting a feline friend locally, not only are new cat owners giving a homeless cat a second chance, but they will also have a companion who will bring many years of joy and happiness to a family, couple or individual.

Cat condos at The Animal Center are filling up fast with this season’s unwanted kittens.

“At this time we have orange cats, playful cats, striped cats, happy cats, and an overabundance of zany cats,” said Monica Roberto of The Animal Center. “And they all have one thing in common and that’s homelessness.”

Adopting from The Animal Center offers a number of benefits as part of the adoption fee: a veterinary exam, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea control, FIV/FeLV test, and a kitten food starter kit. Also, the Animal Center’s locally based team is always on hand to answer any questions about a cat after she or he has been adopted.

The Animal Center, a Newtown-based animal welfare charity, runs a rescue and adoption program for homeless cats and kittens in the Newtown area through volunteer foster homes.
