A Rooster Rumble

Thank You

To the Editor:

From dawn to dusk on Saturday, June 9, Newtown Lacrosse hosted the 2nd Annual Rooster Rumble. Bigger and better than last year, this year’s tournament was held at Treadwell Park, with over 320 seventh and eighth grade girls playing from 21 teams out of 14 different Connecticut towns. The highly competitive Rumble brings to Newtown one of the fastest growing girls’ sports and was a huge hit with all the teams and families. Coaches from around the state said the tournament was an operation of “first class and run very professionally — your group should be commended for their efforts.” So, we would like to take this opportunity to thanks those involved in helping make Newtown’s Rooster Rumble such a phenomenal success!

First of all, thanks goes out to the Newtown citizens and the Parks & Recreation Department for building and maintaining such a great venue. The park, playground, pavilion, and fields provide all of us a beautiful area where kids and parents can play a variety of sports and have so much fun.

Next, we would like to thank our local Carminuccio’s and Dunkin’ Donuts for delivering breakfast and coffee to the hungry players and families in the morning and for supplying the never-ending delivery of hot pizza to the crowd all afternoon.

To those parents who helped set up, run concessions, sell T-shirts and clean up, as well as those who lent us their tents, tables, and coolers — thank you! There is absolutely no way we could have pulled this event off without you.

Lastly, all of us parents and all of the players would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Coaches John Bridges, Tony and Debbie Isabella, Kerrie Canavan, Maura Fletcher, and Mark Feltch, for without your time, talent and endless energies that you give our girls, none of this would be possible. Your coaching nurtured the fun, effort, and sportsmanship of our town’s three senior girls teams, and helped us in showing how Newtown is the best place to live!

Sincerely,

Laura Brophy
