Clifford Nichols
Clifford Edward Nichols, III was conferred the degree of Juris Doctorate at the University of Miami School of Law on May 12. He graduated cum laude. Mr Nichols is employed with the Day, Berry and Howard Law Firm in Hartford. He is the son of Ester and Clifford Nichols of Sandy Hook.
Two students attending The College of Wooster were named to the collegeâs spring deanâs list. The students include junior Dan OâConnor and sophomore Charles Sandifer.
Mary Delaney of Newtown graduated from Saint Joseph College on May 20. She was one of over 400 students who received a degree during the commencement ceremony.
Navy Ensign Paul C. Carney, son of Nancy R. and Charles F. Carney of Newtown, recently received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida.
Mr Carney is a 1989 graduate of Newtown High School. During his 13-week training, he received extensive instruction on a variety of specialized subjects including navigation, ship handling, engineering, naval warfare and management.
Jenna Jones of Sandy Hook graduated from Lehigh University June 3 with a Bachelor of Science in business and economics with a major in finance and marketing.
Michael Sciarretto, son of Mary Ellen Sciarretto of Newtown, earned highest honors for the spring semester at Skidmore College.
Jeanette Tetrault, daughter of Marilyn Tetrault of Woodbury and Robert Tetrault of Naugatuck, recently was awarded a doctor of medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine. Miss Tetrault earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Boston University. After completing a residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in internal medicine, Miss Tetrault hopes to practice primary care medicine at an academic institution.
Kristin C. Schierloh graduated from Cedarville University in Ohio with honors and a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in June. She is the daughter of Ed and Carey Schierloh of Newtown. Miss Schierloh is a 1997 graduate of Newtown High School.
Carolyn Barrett Anders of Newtown was named to the deanâs list at Colorado State University for the spring 2001 semester. She is a senior majoring in interior design.
Alissa Nagy of Newtown was named to the deanâs list at Central Connecticut State University for the spring semester.
Besty P. Earle of Newtown was named to the 2001 spring semester deanâs list at the University of Rhode Island.
Sarah Kiernan of Newtown was named one of the top 13 female students honored May 18 as the highest ranking women graduating from each of the University of Connecticutâs schools and colleges. Miss Kiernan is one of this yearâs recipients of the Universityâs Outstanding Academic Achievements Awards. She is studying allied health at the university.

Megan Szarek, daughter of Stanley and Cheryl Szarek of Sandy Hook, graduated from the University of Connecticut at Storrs with a bachelor of science degree in real estate and urban economics. Miss Szarek will be pursuing a career in corporate real estate and appraisal.

Maggie Wolowitz
Maggie Wolowitz, a 2000 Newtown High School graduate, has achieved deanâs list for her first year at Southern Connecticut State University. Miss Walowitz is currently doing extended field work on an anthropological internship in the Dominican Republic. She is the daughter of Jill and Howard Walowitz.
John Matthew Huray of Newtown graduated from Vanderbilt University cum laude. Mr Huray received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
