The Reverend Thomas Malcolm Waltz, 80, of Covenant Woods, Mechanicsville, Va., originally from Detroit and formerly of Newtown, died June 11.

His beloved wife of 60 years, Ruth Whaley Waltz; his four beautiful daughters, Jennifer Lundin, Sara Simasek, Vivian Waltz, and Natalie Waltz; 11 precious grandchildren; and eight siblings survive Rev Waltz. His parents Frances Schell Waltz and Robert Beatty Waltz and three siblings predeceased him.

He received his engineering degree and master's in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He earned his master of divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1997 and served six churches in the Presbytery of the James. His passion was for preaching and teaching the Word. He was twice honored to give the invocation for the Virginia State Senate.

“Pastor Tom” enjoyed two careers. He was also executive vice president at Trans-Lux Corporation in Norwalk.

Rev Waltz was an avid athlete and a five-time national racquetball champion. He loved music, from classical to jazz to spiritual songs, and performed duets with his wife. He enjoyed nature, gardening, and camping, and loved many loyal canine companions throughout his life.

He was a faithful servant of God and an inspiration to all whose lives he touched.

A celebration of his life will take place August 9, at 3 pm, at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 2446 Old Church Road,  Mechanicsville, Va., with the Reverend Rebekah Johns officiating.

Donations in his memory may be made to St James Presbyterian Church, 411 Courthouse Lane, King William VA 23086 or the Presbyterian Mission Agency at www.presbyterianmissionagency.org
