To Welcome Whisk
BROOKFIELD â Young Chefs Academy (YCA), North Americaâs largest childrenâs cooking school, is running a Whisk Torch Relay during this yearâs mini camp theme âCook for the Gold.â Young Chefs Academies across the nation will be celebrating summer fun and culinary adventures through Camp Can-I-Cook® with exciting themes such as âGo Greekâ and âAthletes in Training.â
Just as the Olympic Torch travels the world from Mount Olympus in Greece to the host city for the Olympic Games, Young Chefs Academy is relaying a âWhisk Torchâ from its headquarters in Waco, Texas, to only 20 of the over 100 operating academies, and Brookfield has been selected as one of the Whisk Torchâs stops.
YCA-Brookfield is planning a welcoming ceremony and open house for Saturday, June 28, in anticipation of the Whisk Torchâs arrival in Connecticut.
âThe YCA Whisk Torch Relay will serve to inform the children and families of Connecticut about all of our exciting programs, especially this summerâs Camp Can-I-Cook, âCook for the Gold,ââ said Jessely Pineda of YCA-Brookfield, which officers three-, four- and five-day weekly camps that will offer three-hour daily sessions highlighting many elements of the culture and cuisine of the Olympics.
Emphasis within the curriculum will include international flavors, sports nutrition, and culinary skills and will culminate in ârecipe trialsâ for nationwide judging through Young Chefs Academyâs home website. The seven sessions will begin July 7 and run through August. Children will have the opportunity to register to win special prizes, including the grand prize of one annual membership to the Young Chefs Academy.Â
YCA-Brookfield is at 18 Old Route 7, and can be reached by calling 740-8878 or 203-676-2958.
