Newtown Shell Hornets 12, Noyes-Ryder Rangers 2 â Down 2-1 in the fourth inning, the Hornets erupted for eight runs with a barrage of hits to win their opening playoff game. The Hornets, who upped their season record to 12-1, started the inning with five consecutive hits. Kyle Wilcox doubled, Chris Robinson singled, Stefan Hennessey crushed a two-RBI triple to left center, Chris Tenney singled in a run, and Connor Blanc doubled to right center. After two outs, Mac Morlock ripped a single, and Nicky Sajovic and Harry Snellback walked to load the bases. Collin âClutchâ Hall lined a two-strike, two-RBI single to right. In the fifth inning, the Hornets put the game away with three more runs. Robinson drilled his third single of the day, and Hennessey reached on an error by the left fielder. Tenney ripped an RBI single and Blanc knocked in a run with a groundout to short. Wilcox, Tenney, and Hennessey combined to hold the Rangers to four hits. For the Rangers, Mike Lengel whacked a double to the left field fence in the second inning, moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Gary Braun and scored on an error. The Rangersâ other run came when Jon Hull and Nick Barreto singled, and Hull scored on an error. Sean Dardine rapped the Rangersâ other hit, a sharp single to left. Dan Gustafson hurled two solid innings, holding the Hornets to two hits and striking out two batters.

Newtown Shell Hornets 17, Noyes-Ryder Rangers 2 â The Hornets scored 13 runs in the first two innings, and pitchers Connor Blanc, Tyler Gibney, Ben Stoller, Harry Snellback, and Nicky Sajovic yielded just three hits over six innings, in the clubâs final regular-season game. In the first inning, doubles by Kyle Wilcox, Chris Tenney, and Blanc, and an RBI single by Ben Stoller, propelled the Hornets to a 6-0 lead. In the second inning, the big blow was a bases-loaded, three-RBI double down the left field line by Mac Morlock. Stefan Hennessey also doubled in the inning, and Chris Robinson, Tenney, Blanc, and Collin Hall slashed RBI singles. Blanc finished the game with three hits, three runs scored and five RBIs. Tyler Gibney also drove in a run, and Stoller, Hennessey, and Tenney each scored three runs. On the mound, Gibney struck out the side in the third inning. Closer Snellback relieved in the final inning and yielded only a walk while retiring two batters. For the Rangers, Stephen Conway crushed a two-RBI double in the third inning, scoring Mike Lengel and Nick Barreto, each of whom had walked. Mario Pizighelli and Barreto singled for the teamâs other two hits. Pizighelli also threw one shutout inning. The game ended when left fielder Chris Tenney fielded a Barreto single and threw to cutoff man Sajovic, who threw a strike to catcher Kyle Wilcox that cut down a sliding base runner.
Newtown Shell Hornets 12, Newtown Roche Inc 3 â Led by three hits each by Kyle Wilcox, Stefan Hennessey and Connor Blanc, the Hornets pounded out 12 hits Tuesday at Sandy Hookâs Walnut Tree Field and upped their record to 10-1. Wilcox crushed two triples and a double, and scored three runs. On both triples, he continued home on fielding errors. The Hornetsâ Ben Stoller drove in three runs, giving him seven RBIs in his last two games. Chris Tenney doubled and scored three runs, and pitched three shutout innings. Tenney struck out seven and didnât yield a hit. Wilcox gave up one unearned run but held the opposition without a hit in two innings on the mound. The Hornets struck out nine batters and turned one double play â pitcher Hennessey to shortstop Wilcox to first baseman Stoller. For Roche Inc., Reid Schmidt smacked a double over the left fielderâs head to drive in Alex Roche, who had reached on an error. Schmidt also scored two runs on fielding errors.

Newtown Shell Hornets 16, Ridgefield Four 0 â Ben Stoller and Kyle Wilcox each drove in four runs as the Hornets cruised to a shutout victory against a strong Ridgefield team Saturday at Ridgefieldâs Playground Field. Stoller smashed a two-RBI first-inning double that bounced against the fence at the 290-foot mark in left center to score Stefan Hennessey and Chris Tenney. In the second inning, Stoller drilled a single down the left field line that again scored Hennessey and Tenney. The biggest hit of the day came off the bat of Wilcox, who ripped a 3-0 pitch about 310 feet over the left field fence, driving in three runs and chalking up the first over-the-fence home run in his career. Nicky Sajovic, who scored on the homer, had three hits, including a double to right center. Powerful Mac Morlock crushed a two-RBI double off the left field fence, scoring Hennessey and Connor Blanc. On the mound, Wilcox and Tenney combined for a one-hit shutout before Ridgefield threw in the towel after five innings. Catcher Blanc threw out one runner trying to steal second base and called a solid game.

Newtown Roche Inc 13, Newtown Shell Hornets 12 â Andy Kelley, Reid Schmidt, and Kyler Harmeling rapped two hits each to lead Roche Inc to victory. Schmidt also scored four runs, and teammates Alex Roche and Kelley each scored three times. Harmeling cleared the bases in the third inning with a three-RBI bases-loaded double to deep left center. For the Hornets, Stefan Hennessey drilled three hits, including two doubles. Mac Morlock knocked in three runs with a two-RBI single and a sacrifice fly. The game came down to the final batter with the potential tying run, Chris Robinson, on second base in the seventh inning. Roche pitcher Harmeling threw a fastball to Morlock, who smacked a high fly ball to centerfield. Centerfielder Michael Allwein backed up a few steps and made a nice catch to preserve the victory. Â

Newtown Noyes-Ryder Rangers 5, Ridgefield Team Three 3 â Outstanding outfield play highlighted a hard-fought Rangers win. In the first inning, Mario Pizighelli launched a throw from the left field corner to cut down a Tiger runner at second. In the fourth, Troy Larsen made a rally-killing sprinting stab of a deep fly in left center. The sixth inning saw center fielder Jon Hullâs sliding shoestring catch behind second base. And in the final inning, running catches by Nick Clarke in right and Larsen in center helped closer Ryan Daignault strand the tying and lead runs on base. An earlier gem in the infield stymied a Ridgefield rally as the Rangers pulled of a 1-2-3 double play â Mike Lengel to Steve Conway to first baseman Sean Dardine. Dan Gustafson led the Ranger moundsmen with two scoreless innings and a pair of strikeouts. The Rangers battled and scrapped for runs against a tough Tiger staff, lead by multi-hit games from Sean Dardine (2-for-2, double), Troy Larsen (2-for-2) , Stephen Conway (2-for-2), and bell-ringing doubles off the bats of Jon Hull and Mike Lengel.

Richâs Keys and Locks 9, Emmet and Glander 8 â Richâs Keys and Locksâ Tim Vander Have hit a two run base hit in the top of the sixth inning for the go-ahead runs. Liam Palilla closed out the game with a three-up, three-down inning. In the field Nathan Wutzke played well in right field. Leading Emmett and Glanderâs offense were Matt Maturo, Andrew Ross, and Erik Street, each with two hits. Val Diiorio pitched two quick shutout innings to keep it close.

Richâs Key and Locks 13, Studio Green 12 (Playoff Game) â Richâs Key was led offensively by Justin Appley and Liam Palilla, who hit a game-winning triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. Declan Sullivan pitched a strong seventh inning to close out the game. Studio Green was led offensively by the hitting of Michael Parker and Daniel Hamula who combined for seven hits, two walks and five runs scored and eight RBIs. Dillon Palumbo, Michael OâKeefe, Jaret Devellis, and Zach Hamar all had key hits.
