Historic Gardens Day At Osborne  Homestead

DERBY — The Osborne Homestead Museum, along with the other ten members of the Connecticut Historic Gardens Trail, will celebrate Connecticut Historic Gardens Day on Sunday, June 22, by offering special complimentary museum and garden tours.

From noon to 4 pm, visitors can enjoy guided tours of the lovely Colonial Revival gardens on the Kellogg Estate, including the rose garden with 100 rose bushes. Guests can also visit the historic house museum to learn about Frances Osborne Kellogg’s passion for roses and conservation.

Every half hour, visitors can participate in a complimentary museum tour or garden tour. Other activities will include lemonade on the porch and children’s flower scavenger hunts. Parasols are encouraged if it is a bright, sunny day.

The Osborne Homestead Museum explores the life and times of Frances Osborne Kellogg. She created tranquil gardens to have a peaceful place to retreat from the hectic world of the early 20th Century. Visitors today continue to enjoy same sense of serenity in these lovely gardens. The museum is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue in Derby, with signs posted from Route 34.

Eleven of the state’s most beautiful and unique sites have joined to form Connecticut’s Historic Gardens.
