Charter Communications Brings '1984' To Our Future
Charter Communications
Brings â1984â To Our Future
To the Editor:
This month, Charter Communications will begin its monitoring program. For those of you unfamiliar with it, The Bee ran a fabulous article on May 23 [âBlumenthal: Charter Internet Tracking âPotentially Illegal,ââ Page 1]. The basic idea of the 1984-esque pilot program is that Charter will monitor the web pages its customers visit, build a âprofileâ for each customer, and then sell that information to an online advertising company.
While it is still unclear if this is illegal or not, it certainly seems ridiculous. Not only is this obviously a gross invasion of privacy, but it is an invasion that Charter will make money off of. If you are as angry about this as I am, feel free to contact your state senator, John McKinney, at 860-240-8805 or either Representative Julia Wasserman at 860-240-8700 or Representative DebraLee Hovey at the same number. Tell them exactly what you (their constituents and support base) think of the actions of this corporation. I also suggest www.myleftnutmeg.com if you would like to read more about this.
