According to Mrs Newquist, many of the founding artists were Nation Academicians. The Academicians of the National Academy are professional artists who are elected to membership by their peers. Members both past and present include many of the countryâs leading painters, sculptors, architects and printmakers.
Kent Art Associationâs founding members include F. Luis Mora, NA, the first Hispanic artist recognized in the United States; Frederick Waugh, NA; Elliot Clark, NA, PNAD; famed artist George Laurence Nelson, NA, landscape artist; Spencer Nichols, NA; sculptor Williard Paddock, ANA; Robert Nisbet, famed Kent Art Colony resident; and regional landscape artists Floyd Clymer and Rex Brasher.
âThis collection will feature original works by these esteemed artists together for the first time in many years,â Mrs Newquist said.Â
During Connecticut Open House Day, Saturday, June 14, at 2 pm, the association will offer a program on the life of Dr Birdsey Grant Northrop, an important 19th Century educator born in Kent and considered to be the founder of Arbor Day in Connecticut and Japan. A press conference will take place with an important announcement concerning the Brasher collection is also being planned.Â
