Where To Cut The Education Budget
Where To Cut The Education Budget
To the Editor:
In seeking solutions to education budget âcutsâ we should look at the grandiose salaries paid its administrators.
Administration: superintendent, $138,500 plus benefits; assistant superintendent, $114,235 plus benefits; business director, $113,197 plus benefits; pupil personal services director, $108,010 plus benefits.
Newtown High School: principal, $116,398 plus benefits; assistant principal, $98,249 plus benefits; assistant principal, $98,249 plus benefits.
Newtown Middle School: principal, $109,575 plus benefits; assistant principal, $97,281 plus benefits; assistant principal, $84,907 plus benefits.
Reed Intermediate School: principal, $108,010 plus benefits; assistant principal, $97,281 plus benefits.
Hawley School: principal, $108,010 plus benefits.
Head Oâ Meadow School: principal, $108,010 plus benefits.
Middle Gate School: principal, $108,010 plus benefits.
Sandy Hook School: principal, $108,010; assistant principal, $84,907 plus benefits.
As a point of reference, compare the above salaries to the $82,750 salary of the first selectman!
Is an assistant principal, for instance, more capable, does he or she have a more responsible, a more valued position than the first selectman?
The obvious solution to ââcutsâ in the education budget is to cut the exorbitant salaries paid by the taxpayers for administration!
