The rain left the track a muddy mess and a fallen log delayed the start, but the Newtown Bridle Lands Association was bound and determined to proceed with its annual Spring Into Summer Hunter Pace last Sunday.
âEveryone enjoyed the pace very much,â said Bev Marr, president of the NBLA, âbut the mud was amazing. We had four shoes sucked off by the mud!â
But the pace went off and nearly 70 riders took to a five-mile course up and around Fairfield Hills.
Winners were crowned in four different divisions: Junior â Grace and Abigail Lee, 2:01.47; Western â Lucy Prybylski and Rosemary Biegger, 1:37.37; Pleasure â Alyssa Schankman and Ned Schankman, 1:48.18; Hunt â Erin Donaldson and Caitlin Donaldson, 1:22.15.
The Western team of Tom Magda and Robbin Sieca, who traversed the course in 1:01.29, turned in the fastest time of the day.
