Pair Of Programs At Audubon Center
SOUTHBURY â Two programs have been announced for the third week of June at Audubon Center at Bent of the River.
On Saturday, June 21, at 8 pm, a staff naturalist and educator will lead a two-hour Solstice Evening Walk to celebrate the longest day of the year. The program will start with participants listening to the evening songs of the birds and end with fireflies and stars. Bring a flashlight.
The program will begin from the Welcome Kiosk near the parking lot, at 185 East Flat Hill Road. Suggested donation for this program is $5.
On Tuesday, June 24, the public is invited to meet one of the centerâs naturalists at 9 am for a leisurely nature walk/hike along one of the sanctuaryâs trails.
June is nesting time for most of the local bird population â the birds are in their brightest plumage and the males are singing to defend their territories. The meadows are also full of blooming spring wildflowers. Bring binoculars to enjoy all of this close up.
This program is designed for the moderately active. It is on mostly level ground with the occasional slope. This walk will also begin from the centerâs Welcome Kiosk, and suggested donation is $5.
The Audubon Center is at 185 East Flat Hill Road in the South Britain section of Southbury, off Route 172 (turn at South Britain Congregational Church). The trails of the center are open to visitors every day from dawn to dusk. For more information call 264-5098.
