Occupation: I work at Flagpole Realty, Inc with a bunch of fantastic, independent, hard-working women that always keep me thinking. My job is administrative assistant, which involves advertising management, a lot of computer work, assorted clerical work, and answering the phones. I like to believe that I am an office “techie.” My previous career was in secondary education. I am a retired mathematics teacher with a bachelor of science from Penn State and a master of arts from Michigan State.

How Long in Newtown: We have lived in Newtown since March of 1996. That makes it seven glorious years. Originally I am from Pittsburgh, but have lived in Appalachin, N.Y., Bethel, Wexford, Penn., and Novi, Mich., courtesy of IBM, before moving to our present home. We picked Newtown at that time and promised our two children to stay through high school.

Biggest Change You Have Seen in Town: The biggest change I have seen is the paving of Walnut Tree Hill Road, thank you very much! I drive the road every day, and very much appreciate the surface and drainage updates.

Family: My husband, Bob Henry, works at IBM. We have been married 23 years, having met when we were both teaching in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. We have two children. Our oldest is Daniel Henry, of “Digital Dan” fame from Channel 17. He is currently attending Emerson College, and doing quite well. He is studying lighting design, and working at various jobs that will help with his career. Our second child is Pamela Henry. She is currently a senior at Newtown High School. She is very active in the stage management end of the drama club. It’s a puzzle how two mathematical folks like us got two kids active in the theater.

Pets: We have Dottie, our Dalmatian, who has been with us for over 12 years. She is a sweetheart who has kept me in shape with walks over the years. Dottie actually “smiles” at us, and is the opposite of the hyperactive dog that is the reputation of Dalmatians. Sky is Pamela’s parakeet, though we all enjoy its chirps.

Hobbies: I am not consistently involved in any one thing, just a dabbler in a lot. Mostly I enjoy walking for exercise, sewing when I have a project, photography, cooking, and home decorating.

Favorite Books and Authors: I will always remember thoroughly enjoying Gone With the Wind and East of Eden. I presently am a member of the Newtown Newcomers’ book club which helps me find new and interesting selections. I do like Wally Lamb and Amy Tan currently.

Favorite TV Show: I have a hard time sitting down and watching TV. I usually fall asleep before the ending of Law and Order. I stay awake for West Wing. Trading Spaces and Food TV are almost constantly on as background.

Organizations: I have been most active in the Newtown Newcomers’ group. In my six years with the organization, I have served as newspaper chairman for two years and as membership chairman for two years. I am currently retired from the board, opting to let newer residents of Newtown to benefit from this wonderful activity. However, I still am active with the Adult Playgroup, the PM Book Club, and the Dining Out group. We have met wonderful friends through this organization. Having moved several times, I value the service this organization provides to transients.

Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: I remember walking out of Edmond Town Hall on a beautiful summer night with a lot of other theatergoers. The air smelled of the mixture of all the summer flowers, the temperature was warm, unlike anything we are currently experiencing, and I was with my family. I felt as if I had been thrown back in time. I could have been on the set of Back to the Future. I just felt peaceful and like I was in the right place.

Favorite Vacation Spot: The Outer Banks of North Carolina. I have spent nine summer vacations with my extended family there. I don’t know if it is the memories or the place, but that has to be my selection.

Personal Philosophy: I guess you can’t beat the “Do Unto Others…” philosophy. In living styles, I believe that natural is better. It’s a throwback to the hippie era.
