Thanks To The Coach

To the Editor:

As The Bee has been a forum to praise the accomplishments of members of this community for years, we would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank a certain citizen for going beyond the call of duty for his efforts this spring.

For years the Newtown High School Boys Tennis Team has been victim to a revolving door of coaches. While many of the sports teams at the high school have maintained relative stability in this regard, the boy’s tennis team has lagged behind. This spring, the trend continued, with the team welcoming yet another new coach for the season. Now that the season has concluded, we hope to call to attention the efforts of coach Marty Margulies.

After amassing an impressive 12-2 record, the boy’s tennis team has positioned itself as one of the elite teams in the SWC. Coach Margulies has instilled a sense of stability and community within the team that it so desperately needs in order to remain successful. His vast knowledge of the game, along with his great  sense of humor, has created an environment where the boys are not only conducive to winning, but more importantly, enjoying themselves at the same time.

As parents of children that have played high school lacrosse, football and tennis, we recognize the numerous sacrifices that coaches have to make and the countless hours they put in without receiving substantial monetary reward. For a coach to make such sacrifices for only one season is certainly more than can be asked for. This being said, we hope that Coach Margulies chooses to return to the sidelines again next year.
