Soft Opening For Newtown Farmers Market Is June 13
The fresh scent of lettuce will soon mingle with pesto, fruits, crisp cucumbers, and sweet desserts, to name a few items for sale at the Newtown Farmers Market at Fairfield Hills, beginning Tuesday, June 13, from 2 to 6:30 pm, with extended hours this year. Sue Shortt is this year's market master.
Although a soft opening is kicking off the market season this week, a full host of vendors will be present by next week, June 20.
By next Tuesday, the market, located near the Fairfield Hills main entrance off of Wasserman Way, will include vendors offering chocolates, pies, bread and pesto, meats, alpaca farmer's products, vegetables from certified organic farms, prepackaged foods, dog treats, homemade oils, olive oil, a message chair and masseuse, and "fresh food, grown by friends," as stated on flyers posted in town.
Available will be "a good sampling of local produce," and other items, said Jim Shortt of Shortt's Farm and Garden Center, 52A Riverside Road in Sandy Hook, which will bring fresh organic produce to the market.
