Julie Genz, 51, a longtime resident of Sandy Hook, died June 9. She was born in Elizabeth, N.J., March 19, 1963, and lived in both New Jersey and Connecticut over her lifetime.

Ms Genz graduated from Danbury High School and pursued a career in the medical field as a sterile processing technician and as a certified nursing assistant. She worked in many Connecticut and New Jersey hospitals over her career, including Danbury Hospital.

While she loved helping others and was crazy about all animals, her true gift was to make people laugh. She would burst out into an Ethel Merman song at the right moment, and could imitate Bette Davis like no other. She probably missed her calling as an entertainer. She enjoyed all kinds of music, and loved Bill W. and all of his friends.

Ms Genz leaves behind her mother, Phyllis Genz of Barnegat, N.J.; her brother Jonathan Genz; sister-in-law Susan; a niece and nephew. She also leaves behind her partner, Fran Hickman of Sandy Hook. Her brother Jeffrey Genz and her father John Genz predeceased Ms Genz.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Saturday, June 14, from 2 to 4 pm, with a memorial service at 3 pm.

She loved dogs more than she loved flowers, so the family asks that she be remembered with a donation to one of her favorite charities, Newtown Park and Bark, at www.newtownparkandbark.org.
