Smith-Miller Constructs Baseball Title
Smith-Miller Construction won the 11-year-old Cal Ripken Baseball championship this past weekend.
In the first round, Smith Miller defeated Richâs Keys and Locks by the score of 4-2. Mason Melillo and Michael Parker did not allow a hit in their four innings of pitching. James Leuci played a strong defensive game and Declan Sullivan saved the day in the fifth inning when he pitched out of a based-loaded, no-outs situation and closed the game out in the sixth. Stephan Pansa ripped a double and scored the go-ahead run on a Connor Miller single. Michael Parker then tripled home Miller and Smith Construction won their first game.
In game 2, Smith Miller Construction defeated Turner Construction 13-1. The offense was led by Daniel Hamula with a single and Andrew Cragin with a single and run scored. Patrick Berger had a single and was solid behind the plate for all three playoff games. Keaton McCleary had a single and scored two runs, Zach Hamar scored two runs and Russel Jacobs also scored.
Smith Miller Construction won the championship game by defeating Newtown Youth Academy by the score of 9-2. Connor Miller got three hits and scored three times to lead the offense. Andrew Cragin and Stephen Pansa got key hits and scored runs. Melillo and Parker each pitched two strong innings to help seal the victory.
