Seven NHS Students Presented Weller Awards
Fairfield â Seven Newtown High School senior students were recently presented with awards by The Weller Foundation, Incorporated at its Annual Awards Banquet held on May 4 in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room at Fairfield University.
Keegan Frobey was the recipient of the $6,000 Weller Medical/Health Sciences Scholarship. Keegan, of Sandy Hook, plans to attend Northeastern University in the fall where she will pursue nursing.
Rachel Lynne Fossum was a finalist competing for the $12,000 Barton L. Weller Scholarship Award. Rachel received a $1,000 Finalist Scholarship for her project âDoor of American History, A Glimpse into the Past.â She plans to attend the University of Maine in the fall, and has not yet declared a major.
As a finalist also competing for the $12,000 Barton L. Weller Scholarship Award, Renee Rushefski received a $1,000 Finalist Scholarship for her project âThink about itâ¦An inside look at the teen diet.â Renee will be attending Cornell Universityâs School of Hotel Administration, where she will major in hotel administration with a concentration in marketing.
Rachel Marcucilli was the recipient of the $2,500 Vincent A. Voccia Vocational Award. Rachel will be attending the Culinary Institute of America this fall where she will pursue baking and pastry culinary arts.
Mark Fernandes was the recipient of the $500 Senior Science Award. Mark will be attending Columbia University this fall to pursue physics or biological sciences.
James Zarifis was the recipient of the $500 Eleanor F. Moore Business Award. James will be attending Southern Connecticut State University this fall to pursue business.
Gretchen Hoffman was the recipient of the $500 Broggi Communications Award. Gretchen will be attending Princeton in the fall to pursue molecular biology.
