Girls Bantam In House
Hungry Hippos vs The Hound Dogs: Hungry Hippos: Lauren Zimmerman and Katie McCabe played well in goal. Meghan Doyle and Jillian DiMartino led the offensive attack. Abby Pearson, Jenna Carvalho and Ashley Solomon played strong defense. Courtney MacDonald played well on both sides of the field. The Hound Dogs all played well.
The Screaming Eagles vs The Smashers: The Screaming Eagles: Olivia Holman & Jenna Lavelle combined for 9 saves in goal. Sidney Marino and Nikki Zaccaro had two assists each. Alex Futterman scooped up three ground balls. The Smashers: Sage Karp had a strong all-around game. Brooke Varnum scooped up many grounders. Hayley Lambert was fierce on defense. Strong effort by Meaghan Lynn.
The Smashers vs The All Stars: The Smashers: Great defense by Keira Sughrue. Emily Bell was consistent with passes and catches. Katie Bassett scored a pretty goal. Strong offense by Dylan Zahansky. The All Stars: Casey Muckell had a great day in goal. Elizabeth Cain and Nevan Gattey turned in all-around excellent performances and Carly Swierbut led the team on attack.
Junior Girls
New Fairfield 11, Junior Gold 4: Despite defeating New Fairfield earlier in the season the Junior Gold girls had a tough time stopping New Fairfield this time around. Some of the highlights of the day were Tess Baldino and Charlotte Stenz gathering up 3 ground balls apiece. Sarah Annessly, Katie Cappelli and Alana OâDonnell had good games in the field. Goals were scored by Laken Hughes, Casey Harkins and Maddie Peck.
Junior Blue
After a 1-3 start in April the Newtown Jr Blue girls pulled together to finish with a strong 8-7-3 record, including a 4-2-1 record in Jamborees.
The Jr Blues featured a strong defense spearheaded by the aggressive play of Alexa Summerlin, Sam
Rodriquez, Holli Olsen, Emily Campbell and Clare Hebert. The defense was anchored by the solid goaltending of Tricia Sullivan and Lexi Samuels, which was highlighted by a spectacular 18-save performance by Lexi Samuels in the season finale against RELAX.
The JR Blue midfield developed confidence with each game. Led by the relentless play of Brittany Meisenheimer, a nonstop ground ball machine, and the hustle of Claudia Morris, Julia Wiburg, Brianna Sclafani, Cameron Morris and Sydney Martino, the girls controlled the center of the field, keeping the pressure off the defense and on their opponents.
The attack was led by the experience of Carly Degregorio, who always seemed to be open, and supported by the solid all-around play of Lyllie McBride, Sara OâRorke, Sara Frascatore, Haley Trudell and Madison Ventresca.
Senior Girls
Newtown hosted the fourth annual Senior girls Rooster Rumble this past Saturday at Treadwell Park. The best teams in the state competed in what has come to be known as the youth girls CT championship. The A flight was won this year by the Darien 8th Grade A team while the B flight was won by New Canaan. Both of the Newtown Senior Girls team played in the tournament.

The Gold won two and lost two in a tough bracket to finish out there season. Brianna Leblanc had 14 saves and Jaclyn Dailey, Cassie Ekstrom and Maddie Fletcher combined for 9 ground balls. Erin Kenning led all scorers with 8 goals, followed by 5 apiece from Meaghan Brophy and Julia Trudell. Meaghan Harkins fed 5 assists and had 5 ground balls. Kristie Vos Winkle netted 3 goals. Caroline Kingsley and Lindsey Jagoe were strong on defense while Allie Samson, Libby DiDomizio, Emily Maher, Paige Murphy and Kellie OâSullivan made some fine passes to keep the offense rolling.

Senior Girls Blue 5, New Milford Green 4

Darien 8, Senior Girls Blue 2
The Senior Blue Girls gained a trip to the semifinals thanks to great goaltending of Olivia Korth, Helene Sorensen, Tressa Scott and Bryanna Le Blanc. Taylor Reardon, Katie McManus, Mary Beth Semosky and Brittany Boggs played solid defense the entire day. Amy Caporale and Sydney Hansen added assists while Olivia Ingham, Julia Diluoffo, Noelle Benson, Tressa Scott, Rachel Wiberg, Bryanna Le Blanc and Meaghan Harkins provided the scoring.
Boysâ In-house
Virginia 6, Hopkins 4: Michael Cirone, Jimmy Leidlien and Logan Walsh scored for Virginia. Michael Poulter, Will Roman, Colin Thies and Phil Tobin all played well. Andy Braun and Tommy Rahr had 2 goals apiece for Hopkins. Aaron Beckett, Harrison Duffy moved the ball well at midfield, while Jack OâBrien and Chris Hartley played strong defense.
Syracuse 8, Hofstra 5: For Syracuse, eight different players had scores in this game including Ben Payne, who also had a great first half in goal. Others who got in on the scoring action were Otto Kerler, Wiley Zahansky, Alec Beauchemin, Deegan Beauchemin, and Sean McCafferty. Cameron Partrick, Sam Adam and Zach Charles were walls on defense. Matt Perun and Matthew Villemanna were all over the field at midfield.
Cannons 11, Outlaws 7: Among the goal-scorers were Cameron Mitchell, Riley Rising, Sam Cox and Nate Sanchez.
Rattlers 5, Dragons 4: David Anderson, Jake Erney, Chad Azzarito and Ryan Campbell all scored for the Rattlers. Brandyn Chieffo, Nick Rohrbacher, Jeremy Salaris and Kristopher Whelan had a goal apiece for the Dragons.
Riptide 5, Lizards 2: Nickolas Lansing led the Riptide with 4 goals and Owen Braddick added one. CJ Shambelan, Matt Meyers and Tom Kitzmiller all had great games moving the ball up the field. Chris Mok and Matt Meyers had the goals for the Lizards.
Boysâ Travel Results:
Newtown Senior Blue 7, Ridgefield Senior Orange 5: After overpowering Cheshire 8-0, the Senior Blue Team played a hard fought battle against Ridgefield Orange ultimately securing a 7-5 victory. Anders Fogelberg finished a strong fast break goal off a feed from Andrew Derrickson. John Meyers converted two crucial goals to keep the team in the lead. Long pole defender Tom Giarratano scooped up a ground ball and went coast to coast to find the back of the net. Doug Miller sealed the victory with a masterful quick stick goal while cutting full speed to the cage. Justin Saint and Chris Stanton did a great job controlling possession with their ground ball hustle.
Newtown Lightning Boys Blue 9, Relax Lightning Gold 4: Newtown led the whole game, and the potent offense was led by Max Weber and Ethan Hoffman. Both of these middies were non-stop on both sides of the ball. Newtownâs defense played great too, turning away almost every offensive possession by Relax. Leading the defense were Cyril Brown and John Pierce, each of whom did a great job keeping between their opponent and the goal, and also sliding to the open man. David Anderson played well in goal, and also had great clears leading to Newtownâs fast breaks.
Newtown Bantam Gold 7, Shelton Bantam Black 1: Crisp passing and great off ball movement allowed the offense to be productive. Scoring for Newtown were Tucker Garrity and Ethan Cox, each with two goals and Vincent Genovese, Owen Rahr and Gino Pagliaro with a goal apiece. Stewart Olson, Max Goldstein and Ethan Tousignant fought hard for ground balls throughout the game to keep Shelton from gaining any momentum. Michael Garner and Tyler Rising combined efforts in goal limited Shelton to only one goal.
