At The Aldrich
RIDGEFIELD â The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art has announced the second annual âStage A Performance Series,â showcasing the latest in contemporary music and poetry. The eclectic music and multi-media arts selection beginning in July promises to present the latest trends in contemporary music, film and performance in Ridgefieldâs internationally recognized arts center.
Included in the series lineup are folk rock artist and former lead singer of Throwing Muses Kristin Hersh (July 13), critically lauded jazz artists Greg Osby and Jason Moran (July 27), Ben Allison & The Medicine Wheel (October 12), the dreamy pop sounds of Duncan Sheik (August, TBA), pianist and composer Fred Hersch (September 28) and the sounds of the internationally acclaimed Gonzalo Rubalcaba Trio (November 16). Visual and sound artists from the downtown scene, DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid with Matthew Shipp (August 24) are also scheduled to perform at the Museum.
All performances begin at 7 pm, and tickets are $30 each. The Gonzalo Rubalcaba Trio will perform at 7 and 9:30 pm.
In addition to the performing music series, âStage Aâ promises to draw national poetry talent in The Annual Aldrich Poetry Competition (July 31). The two chosen poetry winners will be given an honorarium and their works will be published in the Aldrichâs poetry chapbook series.
A reading will take place in January 2002. Award-winning poet Billy Collins will act as juror for the competition.
