Mattatuck Museum Has Summer Art & Science Camps For Kids
WATERBURY â Parents who are looking for a different summer camp experience for their child this summer are encouraged to look at the Mattatuck Museumâs Art, Science and Little Artists Camps. Full of fun and fascinating themes and activities, these camps are way cool and will keep campers having fun, while learning new and interesting skills, ideas and more.
All camps are taught by experienced teachers and artists including Dale Amber Krupnick, Eleanor Brasche, Ray Coughlin, Raquel Figueiredo, Roseanne Greaney, Christine Jewell, Renee Baschetta, Adam Niklewicz, Mark Szantyr, Linda Benedetto and Georgia Sheron. The camps are designed with kids in mind and promise exciting morning, afternoon or whole day experiences, exploring a wide spectrum of art forms and interesting learning experiences.
Each week has a specific theme, where creativity and fun are key elements inviting kids to experiment with sculpting, painting, theater, photography, portraiture, costume and mask making, murals, dimensional design, architecture and the world around them.
The art camp schedule includes programs such as âAmazon Explorers,â where the art room will be transformed into an Amazon jungle, children will create compasses and binoculars to map out new territories and help create a base camp complete with tent to begin the journey.
In âPapier Mache Beasts,â participants will create an assortment of zany creatures using this time-honored technique. âDinosaur Week,â with morning and afternoon sessions available, will have children exploring the world when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Dinosaur habitats, collages and other artistic creations will be created, and the class features an all day field trip to the Peabody Museum in New Haven (extra $10 for trip).
Also available are science-themed camps designed especially for ages 7-12. The themes for science camps are âDinosaur Adventure,â âFlying Voyages,â âCrime Lab Chemistry,â âBirds and Butterfliesâ and âSpace Kids.â
