Back-To-School Backpacks
Back-To-School Backpacks
To the Editor:
With school soon letting out for summer vacation, purchasing and organizing school supplies for the coming school year is the furthest thing from peopleâs minds. However, the Newtown Junior Womenâs Club is doing just that! We have begun work on our annual âBack-to-School Backpacksâ program, which is done in conjunction with the Newtown Social Services Office. Our intent is to distribute backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to local children in need.
Although we have the energy and enthusiasm to reach our goal, we must turn to the community for help with funding. We are in need of monetary donations, as well as school supplies such as binders, pencils, notebook paper, and glue sticks. Each $25 donation covers the cost of one backpack with contents. Any excess funds will be used to support local children in need throughout the year.
As each year passes, the need in Newtown grows. Last year we distributed over 80 backpacks and are preparing for an even greater number this year. We hope we can count on your continued support!
Sincerely,
Skye Koehler & Anna Wiggers
