Police Reports, May 30-June 6, 2015
DUI Incident
Police report that at about 3:15 am on June 6, they discovered damage to a utility pole located near 97 South Main Street, indicating to them that a driver had struck the pole and then left the scene of the accident.
Police said they located the driver in question a short time later and investigated. Police said they charged motorist Joseph Paul Tartaglia, 21, of Monroe with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to drive to the right, and distracted driving.
Following arrest processing, police released Tartaglia on $100 bail for a June 23 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
DUI Arrest
At about 9:15 pm on June 5, police received a complaint concerning an erratic driver traveling on Berkshire Road, so they went to the area to investigate.
Police said they located the 1999 Honda Civic in question on Washington Avenue, after which they stopped the driver.
After investigating, police charged motorist Robert Borsey, 51, of Monroe with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and disobeying a police officer’s signal to stop.
Following arrest processing, police released Borsey on $5,000 non-surety bail for a June 19 court arraignment.
Flagpole Crash
At about 5:30 pm on June 1, motorist Edward Lamere, Jr, 56, of 6 Hearthstone Lane, who was driving a 2007 Buick Lucerne sedan southward on Main Street at the flagpole intersection, attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police said.
But in attempting to make that turn, the Buick collided with motorist Hubert Williams, 37, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV northward on Main Street, police said.
There were no injuries. Lamere received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.
Glover/Queen
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 3:56 pm on June 4.
Police said motorist Jamie Forcier, 33, of Richmond, Vermont, was driving a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck eastward on Glover Avenue, as motorist Lynn Simoneau, 40, of 7 Crabapple Lane was driving a 1998 Ford E-150 van southward on Queen Street.
Forcier did not grant the right of way at the stop sign on Glover Avenue at its intersection with Queen Street, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Forcier a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign and also gave Forcier an infraction for driving without a license.
Theft From Vehicle
Police reported on an investigation that they are conducting concerning a recent theft.
Police said on June 4 that at about 12:15 pm on April 15, a man parked his vehicle in a parking lot at 30 Church Hill Road. On returning to the unlocked vehicle a short time later, the man discovered that a black leather bag that he had left on the vehicle’s rear seat had been stolen, police said.

Evading Responsibility
Between 11 am and 1:48 pm on May 30, an unoccupied white 2010 Scion TC coupe was parallel-parked on westbound Church Hill Road, across the street from 88 Church Hill Road, police said.
An unknown vehicle struck the Scion, damaging it, and then left the scene, police said.
Based on evidence, the offending vehicle likely has a dark paint color, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them.
Shotgun Blast
Police report they received a call about 7:30 pm on June 6 reporting that a firearm had been discharged at Head O’ Meadow Road, so they responded to investigate.
Police said their probe indicated that Alan Gentrup, 50, of 21 Head O’ Meadow Road, had removed a shotgun from a gun safe and then discharged it outdoors while pointing it upwards. There were no injuries.
Police said they arrested Gentrup without incident on charges of illegal discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct.
Following arrest processing, police released Gentrup on $10,000 non-surety bail for a June 8 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
Ambulance Accident
Police said that Michael Collins, 62, of 71-A Great Ring Road was driving a 2006 Ford E-450 ambulance owned by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps on Philo Curtis Road at about 5 pm on May 26 while transporting a patient to Danbury Hospital, when the ambulance struck a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-240 sedan driven by Linda Dubin, 60, of 44 Cobblers Mill Road, which was pulling out of the driveway for Treadwell Park.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Collins for making an improper turn.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Miles Dobbrow, 20, of 12 Pole Bridge Road went to the police station on the morning of June 8 and was charged with one count of second-degree larceny, which is a felony.
Police said the charge stems from their investigation into the alleged theft of a finger ring from a local residence on February 27. Second-degree larceny covers the theft of items worth between $10,000 and $20,000.
Police said they held Dobbrow on $7,500 bail for an arraignment on June 8 in Danbury Superior Court. Dobbrow pleaded not guilty in court and was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 26.
Damaged
Police report that sometime between the evening of June 5 and the morning of June 6, an unknown vehicle struck a curbside residential mailbox on Pine Tree Hill Road, near its intersection with Bears Hill Road. The offending vehicle would have damage on the right side of its front bumper, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Michael McGowan at the police station.
Flagpole
Motorist Andrew Karkut, 57, of Southbury, who was driving a 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup truck about 11:23 am on May 23, stopped at the stop sign on Church Hill Road at its intersection with Main Street, near the Main Street flagpole, when the Nissan was struck from behind by motorist Laura Callahan, 46, of 16 Totem Trail, who was driving a 2012 Ford Escape SUV, police said.
There were no injuries. Callahan received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.
DUI Case
Police report they responded to a complaint on the evening of June 5, claiming that there was an intoxicated person sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle parked in the parking lot at 123 South Main Street.
After investigating, police charged motorist Marion Skidmore, 67, of Monroe with driving under the influence. After processing, police released Skidmore on $250 bail for a June 19 court appearance.
Chain Reaction
State police report a four-vehicle chain-reaction accident on westbound Interstate 84 about 500 feet east of Exit 10 at about 8:50 am on June 1.
The accident occurred as traffic was slowing on the highway, state police said.
In the incident, trucker Mark Iamele, 56, of West Haven, who was driving a 2008 Peterbilt 367 truck, struck the rear end a 2011 Peterbilt 330 truck driven by Tyler McElrath, 27, of Waterbury, state police said.
That impact, pushed the 2011 Peterbilt in the rear end of a 2015 Ford Escape SUV driven by Jaroslaw Zasadzwski, 35, of Wilkes-Barre, Penn, resulting the Ford striking the rear end of a 2007 Mercury Montego sedan driven by Abel Moussamir, 41, of Torrington, state police said.
There were no injuries. The collision caused travel delays on the highway. Enforcement information was not available.
Equipment Stolen
Police report that sometime between 7 pm on June 5, and 7:30 am on June 6, someone stole landscaping equipment from a property on Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

Sunglasses
Police report that at about 1:15 pm on June 8, someone stole four pairs of expensive sunglasses from Moore & McGlynn Eye Care, an optometrist located at 14 Church Hill Road.
Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Michael McGowan at the police station.
Mountain Bike
Police report that on June 8, a mountain bicycle was found abandoned near 15 Cherry Street in Sandy Hook. Police ask anyone with knowledge of its ownership to contact them at the police station.
