Will Be A Benefit For Gulf Oil Disaster
RIDGEFIELD â The Ridgefield Playhouse and artist Sophie B. Hawkins will be doing their part to help respond to the gulf oil spill disaster by holding a benefit concert to help save the Gulf Coast on Friday, June 11, at 8 pm.
The Gulf Coast catastrophe continues, and artists are rising to the occasion with benefit concerts. Singer and songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins, whose hits âDamn, I Wish I Was Your Loverâ and âAs I Lay Me Downâ topped the charts, will donate 100 percent of her CD sales and a portion of her June 11 concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse to The Waterkeeper Alliance (TWA).
TWA is an organization of on-the-water advocates who patrol and protect over 100,000 miles of rivers, streams and coastlines in North and South America, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. The organization is now working to help the oil spill recovery efforts in the Gulf of Mexico.Â
The special guest opening the show is Matt Duke whose folk-pop-rock-jazz sound has been attracting fans young and old.Â
Before the show, Cellar XV will host an organic wine tasting in the lobby of the playhouse beginning at 7 pm, and Lauren DiNardo Fashions and Practically Green will host a ââgreen shoppingâ event. A portion of their sales for the evening will also be donated to The Waterkeeper Alliance.
Ms Hawkins commented recently regarding the Gulf oil tragedy: âImagine the long term effects of this disaster⦠As Einstein said, we need to expand our circle of compassion.â Â
Sophie B. Hawkins debuted with her album Tongues & Tails in 1992 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. âDamn, I Wish I Was Your Loverâ was on that critically-acclaimed album, and two years later, âAs I Lay Me Downâ was on Billboard charts for a record breaking 67 weeks.
Tickets for the Ridgefield concert are $38.50 and can be reserved by calling 203-438-5795 or going to RidgefieldPlayhouse.org. Tickets may also be available at the door Friday night.
