ACL Injury Prevention
ACL Injury Prevention
The Fitness Loft, in partnership with the Newtown Youth Academy (NYA), is offering a free ACL injury prevention lecture, ACL screening and workshop. The seminar will be held Wednesday, June 9, from 6 to 7 pm at the Newtown Youth Academy, which is located in Fairfield Hills.
The activity is open to the public and free of charge, and is a must for any female athlete, coach or parent that works with female athletes, according to Fitness Loft owner Cody Foss, who notes that the incidence of ACL injuries is currently estimated at approximately 200,000 annually, with 100,000 ACL reconstructions performed each year, making the ACL the most commonly injured ligament in the knee.
Female athletes are three to eight times more susceptible than men to ACL injury. The majority of ACL injuries (up to 70 percent) in women are noncontact in nature and therefore are potentially preventable.
The speakers for the seminar include Mr Foss MS, LATC, CSCS, PES, who is director of speed programs at the NYA, and Chris Geier PA-C, ATC, CSCS of Danbury Orthopedics.
This seminar provides an opportunity for coaches to have their athletes screened for some of the possible risks of an ACL tear. In addition, there will be an injury prevention workshop and lecture where athletes will learn exercises they can do to help prevent this epidemic in womenâs sports.
A no fee registration must be made in advance to The Fitness Loft by e-mail, cfoss@newtownyouthacademy.org, or by calling 203-304-1400.
