A Hidden Gem
A Hidden Gem
To the Editor,
This weekend I attended the performance of Pete nâ Keely at the Music Theatre of Connecticut in Westport. This little theater is a hidden gem. MTC is best known as a performing arts school, but their professional theater is an asset for the whole community. For Pete ânâ Keely they transformed the entire theater into a late 60s TV studio for a live TV broadcast of Pete and Keelyâs reunion. The performance is filled with familiar songs of the lounge era like âFever,â âBlack Coffee,â âThis Could Be the Start of Something Big,â and âBesame Mucho.â Broadwayâs Kristen Huffman (Company) and Tony Lawson (Beauty and the Beast) took us on a journey filled with laughter and fun, and great music. Also, we were offered refreshments and snacks with food, drink and décor all in keeping with the times. (One hint: lava lamps) It was a total theater experience from the minute we walked in the door we were in that TV studio back in the 60s, laughing with Pete and Keely reveling in the wonderful music. Pete ânâ Keely only has one more weekend in its run. This show and MTC are a wonderful discovery.
