TOM GILLEON, TIM SOLLIDAY SHOWS TO OPEN AT ALTERMANN IN JULY, W/2 CUTS

AVV/GS SET 6/11 #752506

SANTA FE, N.M. — Altermann Galleries will present a selling exhibit of  Tom Gilleon’s newest works with an artist’s reception on July 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at the gallery’s 225 Canyon Road location. The works will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tim Solliday will have a solo exhibition of his work at the gallery with an artist’s reception Friday, July 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm; works to be offered at set price and sold by the draw method. The principal subject matter will be Native Americans of Northern New Mexico.

Gilleon’s career has led to his living in all four corners of the country. The change of scenery has compelled him to paint a variety of subject matter. “My interests are so varied,” he said, “it’s only natural that my art is varied. The subject itself isn’t as important as the emotion it evokes. It’s the implication of a story being told, the visual connection between shapes that makes a good painting.”

Gilleon’s past experience in so many artistic fields has added to his versatility. While he has always worked as a fine artist, his artistic career began years ago in the commercial field, as an illustrator for NASA’s Apollo program.

He has since spent many years working with Disney and other theme park design groups as a designer and illustrator. Working with some of the great motion picture art directors led to his involvement in the motion picture industry as well. There, Gilleon worked as an illustrator and storyboard artist. One of his more interesting studio jobs was doing matte paintings for the Disney movie Dick Tracey.

For many years, Gilleon and his family have made their home in Montana. There, he continues with both his fine art and illustration painting.

Solliday, a California plein air painter, won his first art competition at the age of 14. He has earned top awards from the Oil Painters of America, California Art Club Gold Medal shows and the Laguna Beach Plein Art Painting Invitational. Solliday has also exhibited in the Masters of the American West Exhibition at the Autry National Center in February of 2008.

Since 2005, he has been represented by Altermann Galleries in numerous auctions and set price sales, including the upcoming solo exhibition.
