‘GETTING PERSONAL’ AT PORTLAND MUSEUM

AVV #6-4 #702084

PORTLAND, MAINE — The Portland Museum of Art presents “Getting Personal: Maine Architects Design Furniture,” on view through August 26.

This exhibit explores the relationship between craft and design by pairing contemporary furniture makers and architects. Twelve individuals or teams of architects contributed 15 pieces to the exhibition. The architects presented napkin sketches of their designs and, when possible, commissioned Maine artisans to build their pieces.

The original sketches are presented along with the final executed designs to map the path from idea to object in a variety of materials including wood, concrete and steel. The exhibition is in conjunction with “Frank Lloyd Wright and the House Beautiful,” on view June 28–October 8.

The museum is downtown at the corner of High and Congress Streets. For more information, 207-775-6148 or www.portlandmuseum.org.
