Senior Girls

 

Senior Blue 9, Fairfield/Wakeman 6 – Lauren Clark had three goals and two assists and Lisa Isabella made five saves in goal in the win over a tough Wakeman team. Libby Feltch and Courtney Gleason scored two goals apiece with Jackie Isabella and Betsy Vendel adding single goals and Lauren Sudbey contributing an assist. Carolyn Gingras had a terrific day at D wing, stopping five Wakeman clears in the second half. Hannah Glasrud grabbed 8 ground balls, and Lucy Remitz was outstanding at the center draw.

Senior Blue 16, Weston 0 – Hannah Tenenbaum scored three goals while Courtney Gleason added two goals and two assists to power Newtown. Libby Feltch and Jackie Isabella each added two goals and an assist as Lauren Sudbey notched two goals and Lauren Clark registered three assists., Stephanie Soder, Jen O’Connell, Bethany Morin, Carolyn Gingras, and Betsy Vendel also scored.

Stratford 8, Senior Gold 6 – Jackie Isabella scored two goals and Jenna Ruddock made four saves in goal in the tough loss to Stratford. Rounding out the scoring for Newtown with single goals were Keegan Frobey, Renee Solheim, Becky Trosan, and Sarah Cioffoletti.

Senior Boys A

 

Newtown 13, Weston (B) 6 – Ned Emerson scored four goals and assist on another to lead Newtown to the win, its 11th in 13 games. Erik Dreher added two goals while Blake Bell had a goal and two assists. Will Mahony and Tim Wheeler chipped in with one goal and one assist while Derek Flynn, Jason Smith, Ryan Golankiewicz and Zack Varga scored solo goals.

Newtown 11, Cheshire 1 – Blake Bell scored three goals and assisted on another to lead Newtown past Cheshire. Brendan Martin and Ned Emerson each tallied two goals and an assist as Tim Wheeler scored twice. Derek Flynn contributed a goal and an assist as Ryan Golankiewicz scored a goal and Paul Tropsa (2) and Will Mahony assisted.

Junior Boys A

Newtown 11, Amity 7 – Ben Mahony scored four goals and assisted on another to power Newtown. Tim Dalton added four goals for the winners, who finished the regular season at 8-5. Lewis Thompson, Jamie Bowers and Max Paynter also scored. Max Naciewicz and goalie Andrew Hyland played well.

Ridgefield 5, Newtown 4 – Ridgefield scored the winning goal on a well-defended, off-speed knuckleball shot with five seconds left to snap the Newtown win streak at six games. Ben Mahony scored two goals while Lewis Thompson added a goal and an assist. Max Paynter scored while Kevin Curry and Tim Dalton chipped in assists.

Newtown 10, Pomperaug 5 – Tim Dalton scored three goals and Max Paynter had a goal and three assists in the Newtown win. Lewis Thompson and Tyler Davenport popped in two goals apiece while Ben Mahony had a goal and two assists. Andrew Hyland was brilliant in goal, stopping nine shots. Max Naciewicz and Chris Gregory anchored the defense, while Colby Summerlin was a ground ball machine from his midfield spot.

Eli Jamboree

Newtown 4, Ledyard 1 – Jamie Bowers had two goals, and Dylan Heubner and Max Paynter also scored for Newtown. Brandon Body and Andrew Hyland had assists. Chris Gregory played well on defense and Colby Summerlin was solid in goal.

Newtown 4, Madison 0 – Tim Dalton started the Newtown domination with an unassisted goal. Tyler Davenport then scored off a Jamie Bowers pass and Ben Mahony split the defense for an unassisted goal. Brandon Body made a beautiful pass to Tyler Davenport, whose patience and marksmanship paid off as he faked the Madison goalie out of his shorts for the final Newtown goal.

Newtown 2, Norwalk 1 – Max Paynter scored off a Dylan Heubner feed and Lewis Thompson converted an amazing fast break pass from Andrew Hyland to secure the win for Newtown. Max Naciewicz was strong defensively, and Conor McNamara came off his sickbed in time to contribute intimidation in the crease. Another strong outing in the nets for Colby Summerlin.

Newtown 2, Brooklyn 1 – Lewis Thompson scored his second of the day off a Jamie Bowers feed to open the scoring. Dylan Heubner’s unassisted tally was the game winner. Kevin Curry controlled faceoffs and displayed his usual 100% output on the hustle-meter. Andrew Golankiewicz and Timo Roehrs were defensive standouts.

Newtown 3, Seals 1 – Ben Mahony isolated his defender and bounced one home to start this strong Newtown win against this tough New England shore town team. Dylan Heubner gathered in a sweet Lewis Thompson pass and put it into the back of the net to increase the lead. Mahony’s second of the game came off a Max Paynter feed.

Seals 4, Newtown 3 – The rematch was played with a decidedly smaller Newtown squad due to family commitments. Lewis Thompson and Max Paynter each scored a goal and added an assist to lead the locals. Brandon Body scored a goal and Ben Mahony chipped in an assist.

Newtown 2, Westport (5A) 2 – This quickie rematch of a regular season game saw the fatigue of a full day’s schedule and limited bench settle in on the Newtown boys. Brandon Body assisted Max Paynter, and Paynter scored again on his own merit. Kevin Curry took a turn in the nets and played well.

Newtown 1, Westport (6A) 0 – A long day came to a merciful close as Andrew Hyland returned to the goal and got the shutout. Both team’s tanks were clearly empty, but Max Naciewicz and Jeremy Schaniel were stellar on defense. Ben Mahony’s field length dash to the cage was the game’s only score.

Bantam Boys

Sea Gulls 12, Eagles 11 (OT) – Will Fletcher scored six goals including the game winner in overtime as the Sea Gulls defeated the Eagles. Andrew Cebry had five goals, Charlie Feltch scored a goal, Luke Sherwood and Fletcher had assists, and Tim Ciavara grabbed nine ground balls. Michael Fitzsimons led the Eagles with five goals and an assist, Parker Rodbell had three goals and three assists, Doug Pierce had a goal and an assist and Noah Sock and Tyler Gregory scored goals to round out the scoring while Chris Arnone was outstanding on defense.

Green Machine 15, Lightning 9 – Matt Vavrek scored five goals and Griffin Paynter added three to lead the Green Machine over the Lightning. Corey Fisher, Stefan Dullinger, and Tom Bauer scored two goals apiece and Gabe Ruiz added a goal. Brendan McNamara had five goals for the Lightning with Conor Quinn scoring four.

Blue Devils 10, Falcons 4 – Ted Benoit scored five goals and Justin Spath scored twice to lead the Blue Devils over the Falcons. Single goals were also scored by Justin Brophy, Michael Daubert, and Daniel Hebert. Brian Kruger scored twice to lead the Falcons with single goals coming from Alec Beauchemin and Jack Curry.
