Lecture On Railway Line
BROOKFIELD â On Wednesday, June 23, at 7:30 pm, Brookfield Historical Society Museum will host a free public lecture and slide show on a historic local railway line.
Peter McLachlan, a volunteer at Danbury Railway Museum and a resident of Newtown, will present historic images of the Berkshire-New Haven railroad line, which ran from Danbury to Pittsfield.
Mr McLachlan began his career with the New Haven Railroad in 1956 servicing electric locomotives. He eventually became a âhuggerâ â railroad jargon for an engineer â a job he held for over 40 years.
Also an avid photographer, Mr McLachlanâs vast collection includes many images he captured while operating steam engine, diesel and electric locomotives during his career. In addition to these images Mr McLachlan will share some fascinating experiences encountered over the years during his presentation, such as the time a small single engine airplane made an emergency landing on the tracks near Danbury Airport while his train was approaching.
The museum is located at the intersection of routes 133 and 25 in Brookfield Center. For more information on this and other planned events call 740-8140 or visit www.BrookfieldCTHistory.org.
