Allison Pianka recently received a master of science degree in technology education from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.
David Portanova, son of Elaine and Ralph Portanova, was on the Presidentâs Honors list from the University of Hartford in fall 2003. He is a junior majoring in illustration.
Michael Sciarretto, a senior at Skidmore College, was recently elected to membership in Periclean, Skidmoreâs own academic honor society. Seniors whose cumulative grade-point average is 3.4 or higher are eligible.
Miriam S. Kurien recently graduated from Trinity College in Hartford with a bachelor of arts degree in American Studies.
Jessica Snow, daughter of Lois and Jeffrey Snow, was named a 2003 New England Scholar. She was selected based on a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 during the fall and spring semesters. Jessica was also honored by receiving the Deborah Horowitz Greenberg Memorial Scholarship from the School of Business. She is majoring in accounting at the University of Connecticut.
Clare Beams, a 2000 graduate of Newtown High School, graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in English from Princeton University on June 1.
Rachel Berliner recently accepted membership into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. The society, founded in 1994, recognizes first and second year undergraduates who excel academically. The society was established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to develop leadership and a duty to perform service.
Christopher Leonethis David of Sandy Hook, Michele Ann Nelson, and Todd Anthony Palo were named to the Deanâs List for the spring 2004 semester at Lafayette College in Easton, Penn.
Erin Kostecki, daughter of Dan and Doreen Kostecki of Sandy Hook, was recently inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society at New York University. Erin recently completed her junior year at the Universityâs Stern Business School, majoring in marketing. She is interning at a marketing firm in New York City this summer.
Terry Laslo
Terry Laslo, pictured with great-aunt Kay Topolosky, received a degree in digital arts technology from Naugatuck Valley Community College in Naugatuck. Ms Topolosky provided Ms Laslo with the inspiration for Ms Lasloâs award-winning graphic design project sponsored by Integrity Graphics, Inc, a Windsor-based graphic communications company. Her piece, âClassic Grilling,â was included in the companyâs 2004 calendar.
Christopher Pierce, Carol Saltzman and Lindsay Schick of Sandy Hook and Frank Catalano, David Kiley, Theresa Laslo, Aubrey List, Ann Meehan, and Erik Secola were also the recent recipients of degrees from Naugatuck Valley Community College in Naugatuck.
