It's A Newtown Thing

To the Editor:

As a single mother who rushes home to make dinner for my kids, the first thing I do when I get in the door is to change into my favorite jogging pants that I have owned forever. They have the word Newtown running down the leg.

One night after dinner, I decided to go and try to pick up an outdoor grill at a store in Danbury. Of course I was wearing my Newtown running pants.

After finding and paying for the grill, I rolled it to my car only to realize it wouldn't fit. Since I never backtrack nor rewind, I stood there thinking about how I could get this grill home.

I stood and looked up at the sky, thinking about my next move when I heard a voice asking me if I lived in Newtown, and I responded saying yes.

The gentleman said he had been a cop in Newtown and his wife said she had worked for the town as well. Then, they offered to load and drive the grill back to my home in their truck.

A few minutes later they were in my driveway with my new grill.

All I could think about was this is who we are as Newtowners, how we help each other without any judgment nor expecting anything in return. It was refreshing to feel that caring energy, so I just wanted to say thanks to those two people who helped me with my grill.
