Eliot Tso Liang, 91, a Dutchess County area resident since 1966, died June 9, at his home. Born in Kiangsi Province, China, May 22, 1923, he was the son of Meru Lee and Gikan Liang.

The love of his life, Amy Wan, survives Mr Liang. His children and their spouses, Grace and Daniel Federman of Newtown, Linda and Stephen Halpert of New Canaan, and Philip and Shin Liang of Elkridge, Md; and seven grandchildren also survive him.

Mr Liang was in the Chinese military academy and a cadet on board a merchant marine ship sailing around the world. He received his degree in maritime administration at the National Chia-Tung University in Shanghai, in 1949. After he immigrated to the United States, he completed a BSME at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, with honors in the Tau Beta Pi association. Working himself through school and supporting his growing family, Mr Liang obtained his MSME from Columbia University, in 1964.

In 1967, he was hired as a mechanical engineer for IBM East Fishkill, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturing plant at that time. During his 23-year career at IBM he played an integral part in the design and construction of the East Fishkill facilities.

Mr Liang enjoyed many activities throughout his life, such as tennis, ping pong, and travel to over 60 countries. Beyond his retirement years his passion became playing club volleyball with the East Fishkill Recreation Department. In January 2013, he was awarded “All Time Leading Scorer,” at the age of 90. Most of all, Mr Liang enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.

His hearty laugh, sense of humor and youthful energy will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will take place Thursday, June 12, from 6 to 8 pm, at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. The funeral service will take place Saturday, June 14, at 11 am, at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction with Rev Taylor Holbrook officiating.
