Wesleyan University awarded Jessica Schlier the Martius Yellow Award for Excellence in organic synthesis. She is a senior majoring in physical chemistry. Jessica graduated from Newtown High School in 1997 and is the daughter of Brian and Dorothy Schlier of Old Purdy Station Road.

Betsy P.  Earle, of Pine Tree Hill Road, was named to the University of Rhode Island’s dean’s list for the 2000 spring semester.

Joann Bartek, daughter of Carol and Paul Bartek of Sandy Hook, has graduated from State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology in Cobbleskill. Miss Bartek graduated with honors with an AOS degree in culinary arts. She also made honorable mention for the college’s dean’s list each semester. She was a 1998 graduate of Newtown High School.

Eleanor R. Meyer (NHS 1996), daughter of Barry and Mary Anne Meyer, formerly of Sandy Hook, graduated on May 20 from the University of Connecticut. She received her bachelor of arts degree in political science. Miss Meyer has been accepted into the Masters of Public Administration program at the University of Delaware, where she was also appointed a residence hall director.

Kevin Rice, of Newtown, and Laura Karvosky, of Sandy Hook, were both named to Lafayette College’s dean’s list for the spring semester.

Lewis Joseph Holub, son of Joseph and Donna Holub of Newtown, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Elon College at commencement exercises Saturday, May 20.

Alyson L. Nickse of Newtown was named to the dean’s list at Colby College for the spring 2000 semester. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Judith Nickse, and is pursuing a major in biology and a minor in computer science.
