James Thomas McMahon

Korean War Veteran

James Thomas McMahon, 79, husband of Winnifred O’Keefe McMahon of Derby, died June 6 in Griffin Hospital, Derby.

He was born in Shelton November 4, 1926, son of James F. and Margaret Fogarty McMahon. He resided in Derby for over 50 years.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, John J. McMahon of Newtown, James T. McMahon of New Milford, and Mark McMahon of Naugatuck; a brother, Donald McMahon of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by three infant children, Patricia Anne, William, and Thomas McMahon, and his brother, William McMahon.

Mr McMahon was a Korean War veteran, having served in the US Army, attaining the rank of sergeant and was retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, where he was a cost estimator.

Mr McMahon was a parishioner of St Jude Church, Derby, and also a Eucharistic minister of the church for six years. He was a member and past grand knight of Paugassett Council Knights of Columbus #28 and also served nine years on Derby Board of Education and was a Boy Scout leader. Mr McMahon was also a ten-year volunteer at Griffin Hospital, Derby.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, at 9:15 am from the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Avenue, Shelton, and at 10 am in St Jude Church, 71 Pleasant View Road, Derby. Burial will be in Mount St Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, June 8, from 4 to 7 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association through the funeral home.
