Fire Co Reports To Gas Odor Call
At 5:24 pm Saturday, June 3, Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters were dispatched to the area of 17 Main Street on the report of a smell of natural gas in the area, which was called in by a passerby.
Mike McCarthy, who served as incident commander on the fire call, said that after arriving, firefighters noticed a slight odor of gas in the area and contacted the Yankeegas utility company to apprise it of the situation.
Yankeegas officials responded that they were aware of the leakage problem, which was not considered hazardous, Mr McCarthy said.
On June 4, a Yankeegas repair crew excavated in hole in the road in front of 16 Main Street and repaired the leakage problem in a gas service line, Mr McCarthy said.
