Director’s Cut Film Festival Will Honor Bruce Beresford

RIDGEFIELD — Bruce Beresford has directed such adored films as Driving Miss Daisy, Tender Mercies and Paradise Road, to name a few. Later this month the director will be at The Ridgefield Playhouse to talk about and show audience members what his favorite films are that he created.

On Friday and Saturday, June 23-24, The Director’s Cut Film Festival will honor Mr Beresford by showing three films that he picked, namely Black Robe, to be shown Friday night at 7:30; Evelyn, to be shown at 4 pm on Saturday; and Driving Miss Daisy, to be shown at 7:30 on Sunday.

The three films will be shown over two days, each with a Q&A following the film and a special meet and greet with Mr Beresford after Friday night’s screening.

Bruce Beresford was born in Australia and graduated from Sydney University in 1962. He served as Film Officer for the British Film Institute Production Board from 1966-1971 and as a Film Advisor to the Arts Council of Great Britain. Beresford has also directed several operas.  Immediately prior to starting production on Paradise Road, Mr Beresford directed Sweeney Todd for Portland Opera in Oregon.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 seniors, and $7.50 student for single tickets; $40 for adults, $25 for seniors, and $18 for students for all three films; and $90 for a VIP package which includes priority seating and the cocktail party meet and greet with Mr Beresford on Friday night.

For further information, call the box office at 203-438-5795. The Ridgefield Playhouse is at 80 East Ridge Road, across from the police station.

The Director’s Cut film festival has already honored such film luminaries as Barry Levinson and Tim Robbins over the past year.  This will be the third Director’s Cut since The Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society was created in November 2004.  In addition to the Director’s Cut, the film society also hosts a monthly Lost and Found Film Series and a Premiere Series which premiers films prior to their national release.  All of the Film Society facets are hosted by Morton Dean and Ira Joe Fisher.
