Arrest Warrant

Newtown police said they located Donald Brelling, 44, of Danbury at the Super 8 Motel in Danbury on the afternoon of June 1 and served an arrest warrant against him stemming from a September 2005 incident at Exit 11 of Interstate 84.

Police charged Brelling with two separate counts of second degree failure to appear in court, and also with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, interfering with police, and violating a traffic control signal.

Police have reported that at about 8 pm September 27, 2005, Brelling drove through a red traffic signal located at the end of the Exit 11 off-ramp and nearly collided with a police car.

After rearresting Brelling on June 1, police held him on $50,000 bail for a June 2 court appearance.

Berkshire Road

About 6:45 pm June 1, police spotted motorist Stephen Maloney, 54, of Danbury driving a vehicle with a expired registration sticker on its rear marker plate on Berkshire Road, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Maloney with a registration sticker violation and with driving while under suspension. Maloney was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 20.

Honda Vs Toyota

About 2:40 pm May 27, motorist Evelyn Johnson, 34, of Parmalee Park Place, who was driving a 2005 Toyota station wagon southward near 103 South Main Street, was waiting for traffic, police said.

Southbound motorist Tomas Barcos, 37, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1990 Honda coupe, then struck the Toyota from behind, police said. There were no injuries.

Barcos received an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving without a license.

Thunderbird Hit

After returning to a 2004 Ford Thunderbird convertible, which was parked in the parking lot at Mona Lisa Restaurant at 160 South Main Street at about 2:45 pm May 27, the driver noticed that the passenger-side door of the auto was dented in, police report. Some motorist had apparently collided with the parked auto and then left the scene. Police are investigating.

Audi Cabriolet

Motorist Christopher Johnson, 18, of 67 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Audi Cabriolet southward down a steep curving slope near 12 Walnut Tree Hill Road at about 3:30 pm June 2, lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The Audi hit curbing and a utility pole. Johnson was not injured. Police issued Johnson an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Housatonic Drive

Police learned on the morning of May 28 that an unknown motorist had backed into and damaged a stone wall in front of 1 Housatonic Drive in the Shady Rest section of Sandy Hook.

The unknown vehicle then drove away from the scene. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 270-8888.

South Main Crash

Motorist Ashley Christopher, 21, of High Bridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Honda sedan southward on a wet South Main Street about 6:14 pm June 2, slowed to make a left turn onto Button Shop Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Giri Laveti, 38, of Monroe, who was driving a 1996 Toyota sedan, then braked, but slid on the wet road and struck the rear end of the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Laveti a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Toddy Hill Collision

About 8 pm June 2, southbound traffic on a wet Toddy Hill Road had stopped for an accident that had occurred at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Button Shop Road, police said.

Motorist Ashley Waldstein, 18, of Monroe, who was driving a 1998 Ford sedan, applied her brakes to stop for the stopped traffic, but slid on the wet road, hitting guardrailing and an embankment, police said.

Waldstein was not injured. Police verbally warned Waldstein for traveling too fast for conditions.

Suspension

Police report that at about 10:30 am June 2, they received a report about an erratic driver who had turned from northbound South Main Street onto westbound Route 302. Police said they found a vehicle matching the description provided to them and investigated after the driver, Alicia Vidnansky, 46, of 22 Little Brook Lane, had pulled into the parking lot at George’s Pizza and Restaurant at 1 Dodgingtown Road.

Police charged Vidnansky with driving while under suspension. Police released her on $100 bail for a June 16 court appearance.

DUI Charge

Police said that at about 4:15 pm on June 4, they received a report that there was an erratic driver traveling southward on Main Street, prompting them to search for the vehicle.

Police said they later located the vehicle improperly parked near 60 Brushy Hill Road with its driver, Kurt Eastman, 51, of 164 Brushy Hill Road, sitting in the driver’s seat.

Police said they charged Eastman with driving under the influence and with illegal parking. Police released Eastman on $1,000 bail for an upcoming appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police said motorist Michael Bachman, 25, of Monroe was seen traveling eastward on Sugar Street without dimming his high-beam headlamps as vehicles approached from the opposite direction about 2 am June 6. Police said they stopped Bachman on South Main Street to investigate.

Police then charged Bachman with driving under the influence, improper use of high-beam headlamps, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After arrest processing, police released Bachman on $50 bail for a June 20 court appearance.

Boat Stolen

Police report that some time between noon May 28 and 6:30 pm May 30, someone stole a 12-foot long Alumnacraft boat that was docked on Lake Zoar. The boat is valued at $1,000. The boat is owned by a resident of Dock Drive in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook.

Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

Motorcycle Theft

Some time between May 27 and June 5, someone entered a locked shed near a Plumtrees Road home and stole a 1995 Honda XR-200 light motorcycle from inside it, police said.

Police are investigating the burglary/larceny and ask anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

DUI Case

Police report they stopped motorist Glenn Zwiebel, 66, of Watertown for erratic driving on Mt Pleasant Road on June 7. After investigating, police charged Zwiebel with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After he posted $100 bail, police released Zwiebel for a June 27 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Shoplifting

Police charged two men each with theft about 8:30 pm on June 4 in connection with an incident that had occurred about two hours earlier at Super Stop & Shop at Sand Hill Plaza.

In that incident, about 20 packages of razors and ten cans of baby formula were stolen from the store, police said.

Each charged with fourth degree larceny were Timothy Francisco, 29, and William Francisco, 36, both of the same New Fairfield address, police said. Each man was held on $2,500 bail for June 5 court appearances.

Deer Incident

Motorist Chris Marchetti, 27, of Old Bridge Road, who was driving a 2004 Volkswagen station wagon eastward on Berkshire Road about 8:35 pm June 7, was approaching its intersection with Bradley Lane, when the auto collided some object, police report.

Marchetti checked the area and learned that he had collided with a deer that had been on the road, police said. Marchetti was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Cemetery Road

About 9:55 pm June 3, motorist Nick Hall, 19, of 33 Cherry Street, who was driving a 2005 Ford sedan on Cemetery Road, started to make a right curve in the road, but slid on the wet pavement and struck a tree, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Hall to Danbury Hospital on a pain complaint, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters went to the accident.

Police gave Hall a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.
