The Genealogy Club of Newtown will hold the final meeting of its 2023-24 season on Wednesday, June 12, at 7 pm via Zoom.

It will include a business meeting to elect officers for the 2024-25 year which begins in September.

The meeting will begin with a presentation by Jolene Mullen entitled “How to Use the DAR’s Genealogy Research System to Trace Our Ancestry Back to the Revolutionary War Period.”

Mullen has served as the state registrar for the Connecticut Daughters of the American Colonists and Connecticut Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. She wrote a two-volume book, Connecticut’s Town Meeting Records During the American Revolution, which was published by Heritage Books.

She has spoken to many groups, including the Genealogy Club of Newtown, about the use of town meeting records for genealogical research. She is a member of the Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council and the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Mullen specializes in lineage research for heritage societies.

The Genealogy Club meets on the second Wednesday of every month from September through June. There are no regular meetings in July and August. Speakers are co-sponsored by C.H. Booth Library.

Visitors and new members are always welcome. Members receive a newsletter with a link to the Zoom meeting, and should plan to sign in at 6:45 so that everyone can be admitted before the meeting begins promptly at 7 pm.

For further information about the meeting or about becoming a club member, send an email request for the link to the meeting and include name, address, phone number and email address by June 10 to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com.
