Drug Possession
Police said they responded to a report of a problem at the C.H. Booth Library grounds at 25 Main Street about 8:55 pm on June 6.
Police said that after arriving, two men there told them that they had been playing Pokémon Go, an electronic game in which players rove the terrain.
After investigating, police charged Michael Paradise, 31, of Redding with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. After learning that there was a pending arrest warrant for Paradise, police additionally charged him with first-degree failure to appear in court. That charge stems from three pending drug charges against Paradise in Waterbury Superior Court.
Also, police charged Theodore Rogers, 29, of Danbury with possession of narcotics.
Police said they released Paradise on $3,000 bail for a June 20 court appearance. Police released Rogers on $500 nonsurety bail for a June 20 court appearance.
Walgreens Wallet
At about 5:32 pm on June 6, police received a report that someone had stolen a wallet at Walgreens Pharmacy at 49 South Main Street, so they went there to investigate.
After investigating, police said they charged Robert Haag, 54, of Sandy Hook with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly stealing the wallet. Following processing, police released Haag on $500 nonsurety bail for a June 20 court appearance.
Shoplifting
Police report that on the morning of June 6, they used an arrest warrant against Krystal Goulette, 28, of Trumbull, to charge her with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly shoplifting some merchandise at the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street on March 8.
Police allege that Goulette stole some Red Bull-brand energy drink and some Dove-brand soap. After processing, police released her on $175 bail for a June 27 court appearance.
Honda Vs Jeep
At about 5:49 pm on June 5, motorist Rose Fogelman, 54, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward on South Main Street, stopped for a red traffic signal positioned at that street's intersection with Glover Avenue, Main Street, and Sugar Street, police report. Northbound motorist Nicole Harris, 26, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord auto, then struck the rear end of the Jeep, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Harris an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Interstate DUI
While on patrol on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, at about 2:56 am on June 4, state police said they spotted a Subaru Forester SUV parked on the right road shoulder, so they stopped to find out if there were any problems.
State police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Joseph Nappi, 39, of Middletown with driving under the influence. Nappi was found sitting in the Subaru's driver's seat, state police said.
After processing, state police released Nappi on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a June 20 arraignment in state Superior Court in Danbury.
Keys Found
Police report that midday on June 4, they received for safekeeping a set of keys that was found along Old Bethel Road in Hawleyville.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the keys' ownership to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, in reference to Case #1700-10382.
Theft From Vehicle
Police report that at about noon on June 3, a man left his vehicle unattended and unlocked and then went inside the Newtown Mobil gas station's convenience store at 62 Church Hill Road. That gas station is near the Exit 10 interchange of Interstate 84.
The man later learned that while he was inside the store, a thin woman with a dark complexion, who is in her 20s or 30s, had stolen some unspecified valuables from his vehicle, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Police said that similar thefts occurred that day at businesses on roadways located near the Exit 14 and the Exit 16 interchanges of I-84 in Southbury. Police urge motorists to lock their unattended vehicles as a deterrent to theft.
Sugar/Elm Collision
Police report that at about 4:36 pm on June 3, motorist Easton Ricks, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 BMW 328-xi sedan westward on Sugar Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto southbound Elm Drive.
Motorist Eleanor McNair, 90, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2010 Hyundai Accent auto westward on Sugar Street, then struck the rear end of the BMW, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned McNair for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Motor Vehicle Accident
At about 6:23 pm on June 2, amid the evening rush, a two-vehicle accident occurred on South Main Street, near its intersection with Country Club Road and Mile Hill Road.
In that incident, a southbound 2011 Nissan Maxima sedan, which was driven by Jay Friedler, 55, of Trumbull, struck the rear end of a southbound 2015 Subaru Impreza driven by Bismark Berkai, 45, of New Haven, according to police.
Berkai reported neck/back pain but refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. Friedler received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.
GMC Blowout
Motorist Freddy Adames, 51, of Danbury was driving a 1999 GMC vehicle westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, at about 11:57 pm on June 2, when a tire blew out on the vehicle, causing it to spin out and travel off the right road shoulder, where it struck a traffic sign, state police said. There were no injuries.
Failure To Respond
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Mohammed Shakir, 33, of Shelton went to the police station on the afternoon of June 1, and turned himself over to police, after which he was charged with failure to respond to a payable infraction, police said.
Police had issued Shakir an infraction on February 21, listing violations of possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, to which Shakir had later pleaded not guilty.
After he posted $286 bail, police released Shakir for a June 15 court appearance.
Honda Vs Honda
At about 4:40 pm on May 31 on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 9, motorist Christopher Boone, 49, of Middletown, who was driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey minivan, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist A.I. Roberts-Caines, 44, of East Hartford, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord auto, state police said.
There were no injuries. Roberts-Caines received a written warning for following too closely, state police said.
SUV Hits Guardrail
At about 9:36 pm on May 31, motorist Laurie Rivkin, 61, of Waterbury was driving a 2006 Hyundai Tucson SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, about one mile west of Exit 10, state police report.
The Hyundai then went out of control, struck some guardrailing, and came to rest on the median, state police said. There were no injuries. Rivkin received a written warning for failure to maintain the proper lane, state police said.
Truck Hits Cables
Motorist Jeremy VanWinkle, 28, of Enfield was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 11, at about 5:55 am on May 30, when he lost control of the truck and it struck some guardcables along the left road shoulder, state police said.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Sideswiped
State police report that a 2014 Dodge Dart driven by Alexandria Mercede, 25, of Ridgefield sideswiped a 2017 Hyundai vehicle driven by Mordechai Schnitzler, 61, of New York City at about 6:11 pm on May 28 on westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 on-ramp.
There were no injuries. State police said they issued Mercede violations for failure to maintain the travel lane and for failure to have automotive insurance. Mercede was released on $500 bail for a June 13 court appearance, according to state police.
SUV Vs SUV
While traveling on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 12:30 pm on May 27, motorist Dana Nuzzo, 46, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV, drifted on the roadway and then sideswiped a 2015 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Tess Calitro, 23, of Danbury, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Nuzzo for failure to drive in the proper lane.
I-84 DUI
State police report that while on traffic enforcement patrol at about 3:29 pm on May 27, they spotted a vehicle moving erratically on Interstate 84, so they stopped it to investigate.
After investigating, state police charged motorist Dale Anderson, 52, of Newtown, with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. After processing the case, state police released Anderson on $750 nonsurety bail for a June 13 court appearance.
SUV Hits Rails
Police report that while on patrol at about 12:32 am on May 26, they spotted a 2014 Nissan Murano SUV parked alongside Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Bennetts Bridge Road, so they stopped and checked out the situation.
Police said that by speaking to motorist Frank Taylor, 42, of Bethel, they learned that he had been driving the SUV westward, when it went off the right road shoulder and then struck some guardrailing. The impact damaged the right side of the SUV, disabling it.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Taylor for failure to maintain the travel lane.
Wet Roads
Amid wet roadways, at about 1:46 pm on May 25, motorist Deirdre Holland, 48, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2007 Saturn Aura sedan, slid on wet pavement on eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 10 on-ramp, and then struck some metallic guardrailing along the left road shoulder, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Holland for traveling too fast for conditions.
Ford Vs Nissan
State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 4:44 pm on May 21.
In that incident, a 2016 Ford Focus auto driven by Linda Crownshaw, 49, of Waterbury, swerved and then struck a 2007 Nissan Altima auto driven by Lauren Silva, 17, of New Milford, state police said. There were no injuries.
Crownshaw received an infraction for failure to maintain the established lane, state police said.
