Newtown Students Among Upcoming Heilweil Vocal Arts Studio Recital

On Sunday, June 12, at 4 pm, in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, local voice teacher Maggi Heilweil will present her students in a program of varied vocal music including selections of Mozart, Lennon, Rogers and Hammerstein, Puccini and Gershwin.Fiddler on the Roof, and will be singing her own composition at graduation. Emily, a student at Housatonic Valley Waldorf School in Newtown, chose singing as her eighth grade year project, which recently culminated in a 15-minute singing and lecture presentation.maheilweil@earthlink.net.

The featured performer on Sunday will be Nicole Mathias, a graduating senior from Staples High School in Westport. Nicole will be attending Penn State University in the fall as a music education major.

Other students performing are Beth Salvador, her daughter Rachel, and cantor Penny Kessler, all from Bethel; Dre Dretzin of Danbury; and Rebecca-Lyn Abrams and Morgana Kate Watson from Patterson, N.Y. Barbara Orwick will be the accompanist.

Selections will range from the classical repertoire to Broadway musical theater, with each student singing both genres. The free recital is open to the public.
