Sandy Hook-based LOF Adaptive Skiers is inviting area residents to participate or volunteer as the organization enters its 2015 season. LOF hosts adaptive water sports events teaching waterskiing and wakeboarding for children, adults, and veterans with disabilities or special needs.

“Our clinics are personal, professional, fun, safe, and designed to enhance independence, confidence and physical fitness through adaptive water sports,” said LOF Executive Director Joel Zeisler. “Whether you’re new to adaptive water sports or a seasoned athlete, you can expect quality programs from great instructors tailored to help you meet and exceed your goals,” Mr Zeisler said.

Among upcoming events is an Open Clinic planned for Saturday, June 20; Freedom Splash, an event for children with special needs and disabilities, on Tuesday, June 30; and a Newtown Parks & Recreation event at Eichler’s Cove on Tuesday, July 7. See the calendar of events on the LOF website at lofadaptiveskiers.org/calendar-of-events/

LOF Adaptive Skier’s programs are free of charge to individuals with disabilities and take place on Lake Zoar in Sandy Hook. Classes are limited to 20 skiers so advance registration is recommended.

Contact the LOF at 203-426-0666, or send an e-mail to info@lofadaptiveskiers.org.

Largely a volunteer-staffed group, LOF Adaptive Skiers welcomes new volunteers to assist at its adaptive sports events.

“If you have an interest in boating, water sports, or volunteering to help children, adults, or veterans with disabilities, our adaptive programs would be a great fit for you,” Mr  Zeisler said.

Founded in 1992, LOF Adaptive Skiers runs one of the largest and safest adaptive water sports programs in the country. In addition to waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and kayaking, LOF Adaptive Skiers offers beginner level snow ski and snowboard instruction during the winter months. LOF Adaptive Skiers is a volunteer staffed, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

LOF Board Member Heather Pentino, right, and Newtown resident Peter Andereau taught jet ski driving at LOF Adaptive Skiers’ May 30 Annual Adaptive Water Sports Training Event on Lake Zoar, which more than 40 volunteers attended. LOF is hoping to hear from others who are interested in sharing their skills as instructors, as well as those who would benefit from participating in the organization’s programs.
