Childrenâs Programs
*Summer reading officially begins on June 26 with two special magic shows by Magician Debbie OâCarroll at 11 am and 1 pm. Free tickets for both performances will be available at the childrenâs circulation desk at 9:30 am on June 26. The Friends of the Library will also hold a childrenâs book sale from 9:30 am to 5 pm.

YA Programs
*âCool Drinks & Cool Storiesâ on Monday, June 25, from 2 to 4 pm, is the kickoff for the Teen Summer Reading Challenge for students entering grades 6â12. Relax, beat the heat with a fruit smoothie, then settle back and listen to acclaimed storyteller Jackson Gillman, âThe Stand-Up Chameleon.â Full details, prizes and how to participate will be discussed. *Make a beaded anklet or bracelet that glows in the dark with artist Pat Martin on Wednesday, June 27, from 3 to 4:30 pm, for rising grades 6â12. Class is limited to 15; $3 supply fee payable at program. Sign up online.
*Creative Writing Summer Camp for young people who love to write, welcomes back author Sarah Darer Littman. Students entering grades 6â7 will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 pm and students entering grades 8â9, from 6 to 8 pm, on five Thursdays from June 28 to July 26. Students are expected to attend all five class sessions and all sessions allow time for writing and sharing stories, which is an important part of all writing groups. Each group is limited to ten participants. Sign up online.

Programs For Adults
*Wedding Dress Reception: June is here â weddings and wedding dresses! A small but distinguished group of wedding dresses from the 1930s to the 1980s from Newtown families will be on exhibit in the dining room on the third floor. View the debut of this lovely collection on Sunday, June 10, from 2 to 3 pm. Lemonade and cookies will be served. The dresses will remain on display until July 2.
*Book Discussion: Daytime Book Group: Into the Woods by Tana French on Monday, June 12, at 1 pm in the Antiques Room; and Evening Book Group: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand on Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 pm in the Old Board Room.
*Good Reads for Hot Days: This four-part lecture series of good books with Julie Stern, a retired English and philosophy teacher from Western Connecticut State University, is on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the Antiques Room. The books include In Pharaohâs Army by Tobias Wolff on June 13; The Soloist by Mark Salzman, June 27; and Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant by Anne Tyler, July 11. and Hemingwayâs Short Stories on July 21.
*On Monday, June 18, at 7 pm, Todd Wood will speak about his first novel, a page-turning adventure titled Currency, which addresses head-on the most pressing and intense global economic, military and political issues of our very challenging current times. Woodâs real world experience on both Wall Street and at the center of the US Military Special Operations world is combined with his love of history and command of current global issues. Currency weaves the historical adventures of our US Founding Fathers who built the countryâs early economic structure, with current-day hero Connor Murray, who unexpectedly finds himself thrust into a world shaped as much by greed, betrayal and violence as it by heroism, loyalty, love and the quest for personal peace.
