NHS Habitat Club Creates T-Shirts
More than 100 students at Newtown High School have purchased Housatonic Habitat for Humanity T-shirts, designed and sold by the school-based Newtown Habitat Club.
Club founders and co-chairs are Hannah Maret and Nicole Davis, who are also members of the National Honor Society, have spearheaded the clubâs yearlong involvement with two houses currently being built at 6 Linden Place, Danbury, by Housatonic Habitat for Humanity. The T-shirts will help raise funds for the effort.
âWe invite the community to buy T-shirts and show support for Housatonic Habitat,â said Hannah.
The NHS Habitat Club was established last spring and members have hammered nails and worked on wallboards on the two Habitat for Humanity homes currently under construction on Linden Place. The club scheduled other activities and fundraisers throughout 2012, including a movie night and âGingerbread Homebuilding Eventâ during the holiday season.
âWe have had a wonderful time working on this project,â Nicole said.
NHS Habitat Club advisor Tom Brant has been on several international Habitat trips and said he was happy to associate with a Habitat volunteer group closer to home.
