Sculpture Exhibit At Walsh Art Gallery

FAIRFIELD — “Emptiness,” a dynamic Michael Rivera sculpture exhibit, will open at Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University on Sunday, June 17, and will continue through Sunday, July 29. Gallery hours are Sunday, from noon to 4 pm, and Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission is free. An opening reception will be held on June 17, from 2 to 4 pm.

In this exhibit, the artist’s medium is steel because, as he says, “it is a way for me to pay homage to modern artists [like Pablo Picasso], the Iron Age, weapons, tools, the Industrial Revolution, machinery and bridges.”

In “Pipe Dream,” one of the pieces on exhibit, Mr Rivera has demonstrated his fluency with steel, having created a graceful expression of texture and movement while also incorporating an element of nominal whimsy.

In addition to “Emptiness,” Mr Rivera’s work is currently on display in a Connecticut gallery group show as well as juried exhibits in Connecticut and The Berkshires. His paintings appear in the print collections of New Mexico State University and Syracuse University, and his sculpture, paintings, and collages appear in many private collections.

Walsh Art Gallery is in Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, on North Benson Road. For more information, call 203-254-4000, extension 2969, or visit QuickCenter.com.
