Disappointed With

School Board Choice

To the Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my disappointment with the Board of Education in their recent decision to fill a vacant seat. In being a part of the initial process with Democratic Town Committee, I know who was interviewed, as well as the name we gave them as our recommendation. The Board of Education chose to ignore this recommendation. Several members claim they didn’t even know who was recommended. I find this hard to believe in that one of their members is on the subcommittee that gave the recommendation. Even if this were the case, they have 30 days to choose someone, and instead chose to rush into it, without, apparently, all of the necessary information. Perhaps they were just afraid of someone who really wants to make a difference.

In hopes that she will run for the seat in November, I would like to share why I, and many members of town committee and community as a whole, feel that Anna Weidemann is an exceptionally strong candidate for this position. For years, Anna has been a strong education supporter. She has worked in the school system, and tirelessly volunteered her time in several schools PTAs, with SOS and on her own. Anna also mentors children in the school system. She has always been an advocate for the budget, as worked for many years to support the Board of Education in their many endeavors.

Despite all of her hard work and the recommendation of the Democratic Town Committee, the Board of Education chose someone else. I sincerely hope that come November, Anna will choose to run for this seat. While the Board of Education may not agree, I know that Anna is an ideal candidate for this position.

Sincerely,

Sarah Hemingway
