Closing Lecture

For Kay Sage Exhibition

WATERBURY — Museum consultant Ann Smith will look at the creative circle of artists who took refuge in the northwest hills of Connecticut during the mid-20th Century on Sunday, June 10.

The lecture, “The Avant-Garde in Our Backyard,” will begin at 2 pm. It will highlight the work, international significance and local associations of Alexander Calder, Yves Tanguy, Kay Sage, Arshile Gorky and Naum Gabo and is being offered on the final day of the exhibition “I Walk Without Echo: An Exhibit of The Kay Sage Collection.” The exhibition is a celebration of one of the few female Surrealist artists, and one of the premier artists of the genre, through the paintings, personal objects, Mayan artifacts, collages, books of poetry, early student work, portraiture, and landscapes done by Ms Sage, who lives in Woodbury with her husband, the artists Yves Tanguy.

The museum is open from noon to 5 pm on Sunday. It is at 144 West Main Street, and can be reached for additional information by calling 203-753-0381.
